Evolution Engines -Gasoline
#1
I have been looking at Engines which would mount on the nose of a very old Sig J3 1/4 scale and of course Sig recommended up to a 1.08 engine. I sure do like the looks of the Evolution Engines as they look and mount for the most part like "Glow Engines". I have not done a survey, but I do not see many of them being used at least here in the USA.
My questions to the masses:
How long have you had the Evolution Engine? {Please specify what engine you have, what prop and type of Aircraft}
How is the quality of the engine as compared to those of known "high quality"?
What are the characteristics of these engines as far as ease of cranking, ease of adjustments?
What is their maintanence history good or bad?
How is the service if service is needed?
How available are parts for the engines if it is damaged in a crash?
How about the reliability of the ignition system?
Is the ignition system a FIXED TIMING spark or does it have advance programmed in the chip?

Any and all responses would be greatly appreciated.

You young guys --
The Evolutions ar all modern ignition setups with internal advance/auto shutdown etc.
I have one a 26 with less than a year on it but that year is crankin up to 10000 on a pipe
quality and durability is excellent
In my book for a small engine that really rips -it is the top of the heap.
there are other , excellent, more simple engines on the market which are also such that you can do your own repairs -if you are mechanically inclined

Tnx Dick,
Its all you "old Fossils" that pave the way for us Youngsters.....
Your report certainly gives me reason to consider one of the 26's. As you can well imagine, when trying to move from Glow to Gas on a fairly decent rendition of the "Ole Yeller Cub" I want as little disturbing of existing stuff as possible. The 26 looks like a good fit and will be more than enough power with some kind of muffler.

BTW, there's a lot of Evolution 26gt's flying and talked about on here....they're just called MVVS 1.6 (26) instead of evolution. The evolution gassers are rebadged MVVS motors and the MVVS has been leading the pack in the small gassers for a long while. Do a search on MVVS 1.6 or MVVS 26 and you'll find a lot of great info. And before Dick has to say it, for the ulitmate prop spinning performance, use a tuned pipe and it will really haul!
