Hi
Flew my WH Ultimate and DA50 today, now this engine has had about 2 gall through it now and needles have been adjusted to give good transition, and slightly rich top end.
But i still get a popping sound at 1/4-1/2 throttle and it seems as if the engine misses a beat now and again, only when below half throttle (low needle) is it still too rich?? even though transitions good most of the time?
I am using Belray HR1 at 50-1. 22x8 Menz prop
Thanks

Sooner or later someone's bound to get lucky.

Id rather just say its my superior tuning skilz at work! HA!

Actually I do get a "bling" every once in a while..especially when the humidity is high

All kidding aside there are very few engines that won't do that.
Right now I know of 2 1 being Taurus and the other being my Brillelli 54. Brillelli sells the 60.. the 54 is a one of a kind.. but the 60 is almost the same engine just slightly different head.

car147,
I had the same problem with my DA and here is the way I solved it. The pop noise in my case was the engine going rich in the air because pressure builds up in the cowl as the speed of the plane increases. As many others the engine was fine in the ground.
The solution was to solder a brass tube in the carb diaphragm hole and put a tygon hose on it. Then I though that if the pressure was building up in the cowl it should be also building up in the fuse so instead or routing the tygon line into the fuse or to the balsa box (what a pain) I just took the line outside the plane in a place where it was not subject to direct airflow (In the area where the landing gear is mounted on the plane). Outside the plane the pressure is the same and if you don´t have any airflow induced pressure you will be fine.
The result is that my engine runs perfect not matter if the plane is inverted, knife edge or whatever
.
Here are some pictures

I think the carb in this engine is very sensitive to pressure changes.
Hope this helps,
Andres

The static line refered to earlier may help. Also it may be a little rich on the low. I would do the line first though. It will change the tune a little. I have seen many DA 50's fly and if tuned correctly there should be very little "bling"

Is this sound that your guys are talking about....called "backing -off" most High performace engines do this when in a dive at reduced throttle. Sounds real good to me. RTK...I agree with you!!!
