I want to cut down the length of the pipes on the standard DA mufflers. How much can I cut without changing the running characteristics of the motor?

Also, what have you used to cut the pipes? hacksaw?

Has anyone ever painted their mufflers? I would like to paint them black. If so, what paint did you use?
