Default Gas octane and 2 stroke oil mix in a ZDZ?

aloha all! Just wondering what most of u use for Gas octane and 2 stroke oil brand and mix for a ZDZ 50. I am using 91 octane and 50 to 1 mix ratio using Motul synthetic. She flew strong today. Just curious what everyone else uses and if there was a better, stronger fuel/oil mix. Thanks guys! [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Your mix is just fine. Don't change it.

That mix does not meet the recommendations for ZDZ, especially if it's new...

According to information shipped with my engines from RC Showcase, the break in ratio using either semi-synthetic or synthetic oil is supposed to be 32/1 for four gallons, then 40/1 afterward with premium grade fuel for both.

ZDZ's website just says 40/1 with no mention of a break in ratio.

The listing for the octane rating from ZDZ says 95+ octane, but I think some of that has to do with gasoline octane readings being determined in a slightly different way between Europe and the USA as the normal highest octane rating you see here (research + method /2 IIRC) is 91. This is an average of the octane ratings using the two common methods.

You can run what you want, but if you have problems and need warranty work, you may not get it.

I won't get into oil brand recommendations as that's a whole 'nother can of worms... [8D]

A ZDZ engine does not last long as it is. With 50 to one oil mix you can expect problems very quickly.

Use 32 to 1 oil mix, and get yourself a Zenoah when that ZDZ self destructs

Jett Pilot,
You are a very funny guy......
ZDZ does recommend 40:1 for the life of the engine after some break in.
We have had EXTREMELY good success using 32:1 or 40:1.

I don't have a ZDZ engine but have several friends who have one.
Using 32:1 to 40:1 is good. Just remember it develops a lot of power so don't over prop it.
You can damage any engine by overloading it.
ZDZ will develop the power, just don't abuse it.

You'll find that all of JettPilots posts are a complete waste of time, so don't even bother reading them. This is from a guy who's never owned a ZDZ.

Thanks to all who posted replies! I think I will run it at 36 to 1. Thats a pretty middle number between 32 and 40. I love my ZDZ. It is one of the most reliable and strong motors I have owned. However, I do still like Zenoah too. They may be heavy but man, you cant beat the motors reliability! My dad and I just put the first few flights on his Chipmunk this past weekend powered by a G-38. (non electronic ignition). Man she fired right up! Throttle response was smooth, good power, and just super idle. He has owned many Zenoah's. He flies mostly scale warbirds. As for me, its ZDZ and DA and a few 3W's!! Thanks again guys!! [sm=thumbs_up.gif]
