Default Impromtu Vess props comparison

Ok, Here is what I have so far. Normally Vess does not use rpm numbers but I did take them just in case. Temp was 71 degrees with about 50 percent humidity

The Ultimate is powered by a Brison 3.2 at 16.5lbs (was 15.75lbs until I added smoke) and the Cap is a DA50 at 13.75lbs. The original props for both planes were a PT Model 22x8. The needles on both engine were untouched for this test.

I tried both a 22A and a 22B on the Ultimate. The "A" gave me as much vertical as the PT does but it's a bit louder. I could easily rip this prop from level flight to about a 30 degree upline. This prop spun 6875 to 6900 so it's loading the engine a bit but you can tell it unloads pretty significantly in the air. Now I'm not the best at hovering and this prop pretty much did the same thing as the PT did for hovering. I had nice pullout but it did take a bit longer to get moving where the PT prop bites right away and I had to work at keeping the plane standing straightup. Again this was no different than the PT prop. Head temps were in the 200 degree area on 50:1 Motul same as the PT prop. Downline breaking was OK. This would make a good 3D prop

The "B" version spun at 6550 and was much quieter as you would expect and I could not rip the prop no matter what I tried. I still had good vertical but not near as far unless I had some speed up first. Again since we are talking about more pitch here, that is to be expected. Speed increased a bit but if you are an IMAC style pilot then this is the prop for you. Downline breaking was fantasic. This prop also unloaded in the air but not too bad at all. All the 3D I did with the "A" I did with the "B". Everything was pretty much the same except hovering was much easier as now I had more airflow over the surfaces. Pullout was very slow so I had to level the nose to get going but once I did, it shot straight ahead with no delay. Head temps were now down to a nice 180 degrees

I also did the 22 "A" and "B" on the Cap. Not withstanding rpm differences and with one exception it was pretty much the same as the Ultimate. NOw the Cap is all but 3 pounds lighter so even the "B" version was decent for 3D. RPM firgures were 6700 for the "B" and 7000 for the "A". Head temps were right around the same as the Ultimate which is good considering I use the same fuel mix for all my engines.

All in all, these are nice props. I run Petes CF spinners on all my planes so having a PT model CF prop just looks so cool but the shape of the prop and the fact they are laminated still made them look cool.

Weights from my Escali 33lb scale. The 22 inch props are drilled for a DA50 and the 23 inch props are drilled for my 3W 55i

Vess:

22 A and B = 4.5 ounces
23 B and C = 4.7 ounces

Pt Model:

22x8 = 4.2
23x8 = 4.4

I just flew the Yak today, sorry I did not take any rpm numbers

The Yak is 19lbs and flew with the Vess 23B on it and I like it a lot. Much better on this plane than the PT models 23X8. Here are some pics of the Yak and Ultimate with the prop on it. whaturi was also there to do the maiden on his WH Giles 202 and I gave him the Vess 23C to try it and he loved it as well. I'm working on a video of his flying with the Vess on it, which is powered by a MVVS 58cc. He got this plane down to just over 19lbs

Ralph,

I agree and I have now done that not that they all needed much tweaking anyway. I wanted to see what, if any changes were needed before I went to changing things. I retuned all three planes and all I canb say is [X(]. What a difference. I was really happy with the CF props but these things are pretty impressive

Too bad they do not make them down to the 18 inch size. I'd love to try them on the G26's I have from you

So when you adjusted the carb, did you get more rpm and vertical from the Vess or the PT propeller?

I cannot tell you about the rpm after the adjustments as I did not re-tach them, but vertical was definitely better, so was the engine response
