Default Module Mounting Advice Needed

I am new to the large gasoline engines. Please advise your opinion on where would be the best place to mount the ignition module. The firewall space is limited and looks like anywhere I put it will run the plug wires and/or module close to the cylinder heads or mufflers. Maybe that doesn't matter and they will take the heat, I am not sure enough to proceed.

Based upon what I can see with your airframe, I would look for a way to mount the ignition against the inside of the firewall and route the plug wire high enough to exit the plug side of the firewall near plug height, while exiting at the inside edge of the firewall. Sorry that was so "wordy". It doesn't appear that you have enough room between the engine and the firewall to clear everything that will be there.

The positioning of the module itself is not overly critical as long as the plug wire remains clear of all the hot stuff, and it can remain relatively cool. Inside the fuselage against the firewall will meet those requirements just fine. You'll need to make an access hatch, though. It looks like you could easily do that from the bottom.

That sounds like a great idea. The only thing I see with that is it will take some large holes to get the end caps through the firewall. Right?

Hi,

I would mount the module on the back side of the firewall on velcro. Clean both surfaces (firewall and ignition) with alcohol and let dry before sticking the velcro to the surface. The velcro gives good vibration isolation and the module is open to the fuse air to remain cool. I would notch the upper edge of the firewall for the spark plug wire and protect the braid with that spiral wire guard where it lays across the firewall notch.

I use velco mounts on all of my 3W modules with no problem as long as the mounting surface is completely clean before sticking the velcro on.
