I have to agree with you about the open rockers, but for some strange reason they seem almost hypnotic when the engine is running

I hope Mr. Mackay will do a twin with this head so it will at least put a decent HP.

The Saito looks awesome and with hope cheaper. Does anyone know if horizon will carry it? I do like the closed rocker covers too. !~) Maybe at the upcoming AMA show there will be some info.

Yes, they are wonderful, but I don't think I like the open rocker design. One nose over and the rockers will be full of grass and dirt.
I thought the same thing when I saw the pic of the engine. That's what the original OS .60 4-stroke looked like, AIR. One had to squirt oil on the rockers periodically.

When this thread got started I called Horizon and asked about the motor. The techs in the engine repair department had never heard of it. While on the phone they got on RCU and took a look at it. The guy then put me on hold for a minute. When he returned his comment was it would most likely take more than a year to reach the states after it is released in Japan.

Hi every one, i just recived a saito fa-220gk [zeuse] directly from saito japan...
in the box they included a flyer about the new FG-36 with all the specs, and it lookes like (from the diferant potos) that a conversion is also avalable! i cant understand it because it is in japanese... but it does have pictures of the 150 and 180 aswell?
this could solve all the oil problems related with a masive glow engine

Do we know that they have installed bearings on the con-rod, otherwise we will still need quite a bit of oil. Either way i am very interested, price is not too bad either, considering what the RCS50 goes for just short of $1k, this is looking to be around $720, according to the Yen confirsion. RCS turns a 20x10 at 6000 according manufacture figures, the Saito a 20x8 at 7300. Neither indicate prop brands used to acheive these figures.

Some prop brands are indicated on the table to the right for the Saito. For example, APC 18x10 @ 7550 rpm, Bolly 19x8 @ 8300 rm, Bolly 19x10 @ 7400 rpm, Bolly 20x8 @ 7300 rpm, 3W 20x8 @ 6400 rpm, CHP 20x8 @ 6900 rpm.

I'm anxious to find out when this engine will hit the store shelves.

The website also says it runs on regular gasoline with an oil mixture ratio of 20-30 to 1.

This is a flight video of FG-36 on a 2.2m(88') span Edge 540.
Click the WMV files located right of " Edge 540 2.2m Saito FG-36".
The first file is of the first flight and the lower is the second one.
Attractive four stroke gas sound.

Richard L,

Yes, I'm thinking of using it too, for Don Smith 85' Hien(Tony).
I've got OS 160FX-FI already for Hien, but changed my mind.
The sound beats a bit more exposure out of the cowl.

Wow two of my loves; saitos and gas engines combined. Now aside from having someone to buy one for me in Japan, how else can I get one here. The power seemed good in that 50cc model but I wonder what 3D flight would be like. Regardless it sounds awesome and it will certainly find a home in one of my planes.

Is it not kind of strange that this engine is not offered in the states yet? Sounds great and looks like it pulls that 50cc sized edge really good. I'd love to try one.
Coming up on a year now since first talked about.

hey charlie, hope youll read this.did you do anything to the bushings on the rod.upper or lower.i would think at 16-1 or anywhere from 20-1 or like the RCS website says,30-1 you wouldnt need needle bearings at all. There was a person in another thread that said hes run ST 2300 and up on gas with no mods to the bushings on crank or rod at all.even at this mix it is still less than an 18-20% mix thats in glow fuel as was stated in another post.i think that was in the bme90 or converting a 90 size glow engine to gas thread.my son races 2 stroke dirt bikes and i put in a new rod and piston on one of his and the new piston has 3 small holes drilled in it as to let more mix to the bearings.they are needle bearings though.

It won't just show up. Horizon will introduce it at a major show, like AMA or Toledo. I hope the price is reasonable and it gets here soon!

i love saito engines,, i was excited about the news too until..............

have you looked at the specs???????
unless there is a typo,,,it doesnt look good.

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=SAIEG36

pay attention to the all up weight......1760 grams=66.2 oz thats over 4 lbs for a 36 cc engine
the 20-30/1 oil ratio tells me of a messy gasser or of fouled plugs, bad idle
the rear walbro means long mount arms to clear the firewall
also the price is wicked high......650$????

i could buy a d.a. 50 cc that will give me 5 horsepower instead of 3.5, weigh about 1 lb less, and cost me 500$. for about 350$ i could get a brillelli 36 cc that includes muff and ei and mounts and it weighs only 50 oz with everything, plus it turns a bigger bench mark prop.

saito needs to put the fg-36 on a diet and drop the price before i bite

take a look at brillelli or firstplace engines and do some comparison shopping.
you can find way more engine with good quality for alot less dough out there.

The weight is High! )if this is indeed the weight...
Mike M. said it would not work well in a aerobatic plane....
More for a Scale flyer.....
A warbird with 2-wings would work best....
Problem even with that though is finding one big enough for it!!
I Can't put it in any 1.20 size biplanes..... I will be a flying BRICK!! for sure at 4lbs!

RCS 50cc VT is less weight than this 33 cc gasser!!!!

3lbs 7 oz// But pricy at 1,000 BOnes!!!
