After inspecting my plane , I found my stainless braided plug wire was frayed just on the braid side , no deeper, about the size of a pencil eraser. Should I send it to DA? Order new plug wire and install ? Our will it be ok, being that it did not go all the way thru ? I have over 2600.00 invested and dont want any trouble. I did wrap a piece of rubber hose around it and taped it, started it up and did a 200ft radio check with antenna down with no issues. thanks for your help in advance . wade

wade,
It must have been rubbing on something. Happened when I got my 1st DA, send the ignition back and let them replace it. Use the plastic automotive spiral wrap the entire length of the plug wire next time.

Thanks for reply Foolish, I ended up removeing my rubber and tape and wraped aluminium tape around it , than put auto spiral around it, I have 4 flights with it , with no issues. For future reference, anybody that gets there plug wire frayed, wrap aluminium tape around it and you will be ok.

My buddy had this happen and just sent it to DA and they fixed it up.

Your aluminum tape bandage may help prevent interference to your radio but will do nothing to prevent arcing inside your cable.

The insulation around the plug was in good shape , it was just the shielding around it, and after further inspecting it , the braided wire is tinned copper which is very soft and can fray easily. another lesson learned for me, protect them wires.
