I have a ST 2300 that has been a great engine. I am using a perry carb and pump combo. Last year I overheated the engine and it lost compression. I need to get a new ring for it and I can't find one anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find one? I hope that this will fix the problem. Any other suggestions would be helpfull too.

For piston rings, try contacting Frank Bowman. He manufactures repro and current piston rings for our modeling needs. He can make standard and Dykes type rings. If he doesn't have the ring you need in stock, you send the piston and cylinder and he will make it then. prices are $7.50 up to $9.50. His work is of the finest quality.

Frank can be reached at [email protected] or 1-505-327-0696 ( 6pm to 9pm mst. weekdays) and the following address:

Make sure your piston and cylinder liner are not scored. Also check for excess wear between the piston and liner.

Default Piston RING

Place ring in bore and square it up by using piston top to push ring down in bore about 1/2 inch. Then check gap. Check with ring maker if not sure or with RC posts by people that have run this engine with great success....... Good luck Capt,n P.S My post was more a generic one, that applyies to most engines.... DicK Hansen has the facts you need for the 2300 ........ I enjoy his expertize very much.

2300 was a very potent engine -and the ring gap for best performance was - almost zero -when new.
Plenty of supposed ST experts suggested that tigres needed more gap to run without heating.
Not so -
even the 2500-3250 series -which had tight gap settings -ran best when simply carefully broken in - I fewed more than a few of these which had been fried/worn out etc- from using the low oil -filed rings etc..
Tigres suffered from being inexpensive - therefore they were treated to more abuse than expensive engines.
