Default bme 3.5?

Will this motor be 3d capable on a 18 lb plane if not what weight should it be kept at for good 3d performance, I have a gsp gs300 90 in. and the bme 3.5 nib but dont want to fire it up unless it will do what I need it to.

Default bme 3.5?

The 3.5 (61cc) BME is a very strong motor for its displacement, turning 22" props with ease, and the 24-8 Menz way faster than most people would believe. In an 18 lbs plane it will fly well, but how well YOU perceive it to perform is the question. Up to 20 lbs the 61 will have good authority and be able to pull out of a TR very well. After that it will become marginal, at best.

Personally, for REALLY rip-roaring performance I'd prefer to see the plane a touch lighter, in the 16 lbs range, but at 18 lbs (an HONEST 18 lbs) I think the BME-61 will surprise you. Compare the BME-61 to a Zenoah G-62, the power difference is silly, and the G-62 would fly that plane well.

Default bme 3.5?

For somewhat of an example. My BME 50 , is on a 15-1/2 lb plane and the power is awesome. This is a new engine with less than a gallon through it, it will only get better.

Default bme 3.5?

BME (Keith) is coming out with a 55 XTreme engine that would help lighten the total load. The engine is only supposed to weigh a tad over 2 pounds and have all the power of the 60cc engines that that are available and the power of SOME of the 70cc engines. Keith says it should be turning 24" props near 7K rpm.

The engine should come out in April. I have two on order.

my 3.5 is a 57cc not produced by bme anymore and was wondering if anyone had any first hand experiance with this particular engine.I have heard all the hype of the 55x but to keep it balanced it needs counter weight on the crank and there is just not much more one can do to reduce weight that much.just my opinion.

my dave patrick extra does not have the power it needs with a moki 1.8 do to my 4500ft elevation its around 14lbs. would the bme 50 be the right choice for 3D. what about the knew 55 extrem this would be even lighter and more power full. how would it fit in the plane.
