Default Kalt KG-22 engine

I have just been given a Kalt KG-22 engine. It looks to be in good shape but I'd like a source for any information on it that might be available, i.e. a parts list if possible. It appears the prop shaft is 8X1.25 metric thread, the carb insulator uses 5X0.8 2cm long screws and the Walbro carb requires about 5X0.8 5cm long screws. Does this sound correct? Any comments such as "Is this engine worth trying to use?". thanks, Rodney

A Kalt KG22 is a Zenoah G23, early style...The prop was held on by 2 nuts on a 6mm threaded rod...There's a set of points behind the flywheel..The spark plug MUST be a NGK BMR6A, any other plug is too long, the piston will hit the side electrode and close it...If you have any problems getting it to run it will need a carb diaphragm kit, about $5....16 inch props work best...It will last a very long time if not crashed...

Also, the points must be set very close on these KALT 22's. I think the point setting is .010, Ralph do you remember? I have three of these that I've been running for many years. Likes to turn an APC around 8500 at sea level. I had Ralph convert one to his EI, just for ease of starting, a good move. This Aeronca is 13lbs, 86" wing, a good flyer on that engine.

Not sure, but the point gap controls the timing, too wide and the engine runs retarded....010 sounds good....

I too have a Kalt G-22 that looks to be in good shape. Do you have any idea where parts may be found, I.E. carb diaphrgm, points etc? Is there a manual for this engine anywhere that you may know of? I was told that the engine was CDI engine - that's apparently wrong. Any info would be greatly appreciated, I'd love to run the thing in a small ultra stick.

We just did a K-22 for a customer. With a B&B "muffler" it turned a 15x6 @ 9400

We ONLY work on engines that we are converting. Doing repair work for parts and labor is a good way to lose money. Sorry but thats the way it is.

Your Kalt should be a good engine for the PT19. I have had two of these motors for years, and love them. I am always on the lookout for more of them at swap meets, etc! I have found the best prop for them to be a 17x6. I have one Kalt in a 17lb DR1 and the other in a 18lb DVIII, both quarter scale. Check out J'tec mufflers for one that is much narrower than the stock one. Loud, though! Duane

Thats good news!

Any source for parts, such as the coil, or points?
A club member of mine checed his and said it had no points but had a moduel.

Any replacments?

Don't know about parts, haven't needed any! If you don't mind spending a little money, you could send your engine to Ralph Cunningham (Antique) and let him put in a RCXL ignition. NOW, that would be sweet....

When setting the points do I gap at top dead center or bottom dead center??? Please help.

The points should be gaped when the points cam follower is riding on the peak of the points cam. This is will be closer to TDC of the piston rather than BDC.

I have a G23 converted to ECDI with D&B electronics. love it. Here is a test review of the early G23 that I think was SA the Kalt
