I use my Dewalt 18v drill with a sullivan adapter. It spins my Fuji 50 no problem! If you already have a drill, the adapter and rubber insert is only about $15 and it will easily spin the 45cc.

I fly with another guy that uses the same thing to start his 3W 56 and ZDZ 50. Works pretty darn good. All he did was adapt a starter cone to it.

Jerry:

I use a Magnum geared starter (very similar to the Kavan) with two 7-cell 3800mah NiMH car packs in series. Spins my Saito R-350, Fugi BT32 and DA-50 with power to spare. Extremely light weight and totally portable. I wired the packs so that I can fast charge them as a unit (14 cells) with my Astroflight 110D or separate them and charge as 7-cell packs with either my Ace Digipulse or Ace DDVC at overnight rates. I have been using this starter setup for a number of years only upgrading the mah rating of the packs.

Works for me.

I can understand the desire to have a big starter.

However, IN MY EXPERIENCE, gas engines with eletronic ignition are very easy to start if set up properly. Our 40, 50, 80, and 100cc engines will start with a few lazy flips of the prop if: 1) fuel is in the carb, 2) engine is not flooded, 3) spark plug is in good condition, and 4) ignition is turned on.

There are a few that don't like to start easy even when all things are in balance. There's also people that like to keep their hands away from a prop. It's all good.

I have a 3w 100 that I always hand start....and a 3w 50 and Evolution 45 that won't start by hand - but the Evol is new so time will tell.

Sears 19v cordless drill, Sullivan Megatron cup, 2 1/2" bolt, (2) lock washers,(1) lock nut, etc...Very light and portable. Spins my G-62's like a top.........
