Default battery voltage for falkon ignition on ZDZ80

what are people using? 4.8 or 6V? Also, what's the typical MaH you're using?

thx

Manufacturer states a max of 6v. So you can't use a 6v pack unless you use a 5.2v or 5.6v regulator. 6v packs start out at all most 7v. I am going to be using a 6v pack with a regulator.

Default volts

the instructions actually say 4.8 - 6.0 V, and they also say 4 cell or 5 cell nicad or nimh. so i don't think a voltage regulator is stricktly necessary.... most people and companies say 4.8v to mean 4 cells and 6v for five cells. its just taken for granted that a cell is 1.2 volts.

Why would you want to use 6 volts when a 4.8 volt pack would work fine? Nose weight?

As I see it a spark is a spark. The voltage can go no higher at the plug than the gap and compression will allow. With the same mah capacity, the 6 volt pack will be drained faster than the 4.8 volt pack.

Just curious,
Ken

well I want to use a 6V because it will also power my throttle servo - and I want the faster response on the servo....

Something to consider. Warranty coverage for an ignition used with incorrect voltage may not be covered if it fails. Just a thought.

I use 4.8v packs on all of mine; they work fine.

Davey,

I assume that you are going to optically isolate your throttle servo. If you are not going to, I think you are really asking for trouble using a battery common to your throttle, ignition, and receiver system.

By the way, there are super high speed servos that operate on 4.8 volts. Your engine probably can't respond faster than a good quality 4.8 volt servo much less your hand/eye coordination.

Ken: Yes I am using Rogers Fiber Optics setup. The servo I'm using for throttle is an Hs605BB - or a HS225 mini - either way they are both pretty fast even on 4.8 V.

Default 4.8V

Use the 4.8V , as stated the 5cell pack easily exceeds the ignition's maximum recomended voltage input. On a full charge you may cook the module.

As for servo's, accuracy is far more important than speed on the throttle, the Hitec 605 is fast but, has very poor accuracy, I suggest something along the lines of JR's 8101, 8231,811, or other manufacturers equivilent.

I used the same setup on my H9Cap w/ZDZ80. i used Roger's fiber optics and HS225 mini on both throttle and choke. it worked well.

however, i took it back apart to try to get a better throttle curve by making the linkage more parallel. when i did that, i also had gotten one of the new Hitec 5245 servos (which is basicly the same mini - but digital). that has really worked out even better. good centering, precise and really holds the position......

My suggestion is to follow the advice of Aerobob. RCS instructions say to use only a 4-cell pack. But hey, if the smoke ever escapes from your ignition, just send it back to RCS and they will recharge it with smoke. All electronic devices work using the smoke......don't let it escape.
