Default Engine Temperature measured by eagle tree seagull telemetry

What temperature do you get on your gas motor in flight? I've now got an Eagle Tree Seagull data recorder / telemetry system that measures in-flight data (altitude, engine rpm, airspeed, temperature, voltage, etc. ) I have two thermocouples - one on each cylinder of my DA 100. I'm getting 230F - 290F inside the cowl of my 35% Yak. I have the sensors mounted to the cylinder fin nearest the sparkplug - slightly to the rear of the engine. The 290 reading is after 15 seconds of full throttle climb. the ambient temperature is about 85 degrees. I have good ducting inside the cowl, but the round cowl itself blocks air from going over the hottest portion of the heads. I have three times exit area as input area.

Sounds about right, and it sounds like you've done a pretty fair job in the installation of everything. A 290 high is very good after a 15 second full power climb. 205 over ambient ain't bad at all. Either at the base of the plug or second fin down, at the rear, close to the top of the actual combustion chanber are the best locations for the thermocouple.

Would you mind sending me a PM with info about your telemetry system? I can never seem to get Eagle Tree to give me all the info I request, along with rough final pricing for a unit similar to yours.

Below is the record of the temperature for four flights of my BME100 in a 77" Weeks Special. The sensor was at the base of the cylinder just above the exhaust. The last flights lower temperature was due to a smaller prop.

Here my log of cylinder temperature. Not sure how to compare to yours since I put my sensor very near the spark plug.
