Default Spark Plug numbers

Anybody know a good web site that explains all the different plug designations?
Some of it I understand( R=resistor) and the number is heat range.
But I'm looking for more of an understanding of how it all works.
My US 41 manual says to use a RCJ7Y but I pulled a RCJ8Y out of it. My LHS's computer says to use RCJ8Y.
