Hey Guys (and gals
),
I have a DA100 that is about a year old and has never been ran. There is not any build up I.E. oxidation, on the motor anywhere. I was wondering what is going to happen when I start running it. Should I play it safe and replace the reeds? There is a light coat of oil on everything internal. That is all I need is for the engine to take a dump on me (again) while I am flying.

I am confused, If it is new and never ran how did it dump on you.
Beside that I would mount and run it. On the first few flights keep it up so you can do a good dead stick if needed. Try doing anything you can to kill the engine other than killing with throttle

I guess i did word that weird huh! This engine is new, and it has not ever been ran. I was actually talking about another engine that hadn't been ran in a while and it deadsticked on me probably 13 out of 15 flights that day...hence my "handle". I will run it in the ground a couple tanks before it takes to the air. Thanks for the input!! The main thing I was worried about was the reeds.

I think since you said the inside does have oil in it and it has never been run you should be fine. Just run it a pinch rich and with a 40:1 gas/ oil mix with an Ashless oil for the first 3-4 gallons.
Then switch to an 85:1 mix with Amsoil.

Hi,
Run it through a little gas on the ground and fly it. Don't even need to run it through a tank full. It's best to get it up in the air. Running a new engine on the ground will just heat it up...not good. You'll find that the engine is very reliable. It may be a tad rich, which is the way it should be, but it will take the throttle and GO. The engine engine has beautiful transition. Do be cautious as you normally would, but you'll find that the engine will put you at ease. DA has designed a great engine. Do your normal checks and enjoy.
To Jim:
Occasionally you will find a 100 for sale here on RCU or part of a package deal with an airplane. Personally I would opt for a brand new one of your very own. Yes, sometimes there is a little of a wait...it is worth it. The reason alot of folks have a tough time finding one of these is because people don't want to seel them unless they are moving onto the 150's or something else. Theyvare THAT good. I have a 100 in my Extra, but I couldn't bring myself to sell it for any price. I have not had a single flameout with that engine at all. It has operated absolutely flawlessly for all of last year, and this year. I'm a guy who likes to fly...i don't like working on airplanes at the field. In fact, nothing makes me madder than to take a plane to field and have to bring out the tools. I want to put the wings and canopy on, fly, and check the batteries. My100 has made that possible. The only issues I have had with my plane to date is I blew the covering off the other day. If that's the most these planes will do in a year, I'll take it! I spent more than that in a month in YS parts and headers with those dang toy pattern airplanes! LOL

Deadsticker,
Do not fly that engine under any circumstances. You are only asking for trouble. Send it immediately to me and I will see that it is disposed of properly. ( like in my H9 Cap!)
