Default Teaching an Echo 302 to fly

I think thats a 43 or 44cc engine. It's kind of an old model saw. It may not have the power -- weight ratio that the modern saws have.

That being said: I'll bet you could get it flying with a bit of work. I haven't seen one of these saw apart, but it can't be any more complicated than a Poulan or Husky-- where you gotta saw the case away from the crank to lighten it up.

I'd take the thing apart and try to get an idea of how much cutting you'll have to do-- then GO FOR IT!!

Contact C-H or RCIGN for an ignition system.

Good luck

by looking at the parts diagram it looks like a good engine. the cutting you have to do on the case looks easier than most engines. since you can't rotate the cylinder you'll have to mount the prop on the clutch side of the case if you want the plug to be angled to the rear. looks like the crank is reversable so you could use whichever end is easiest to make a prop hub for. the other end could be chopped off right at the bearing and a plug fitted where the seal was, this would provide a small reduction in friction. to do all this you would of course need electronic ignition.

zagnet mentioned using either end but be sure to check thread because most are reversed thread on the chain side and if you cant do this you might be able to turn the crank or cylinder this will mess up the wear of ring and cylinder so if you go this route it would not hurt to put in a new ring,if you cant find a new ring get ahold off Frank Bowman his work is of the highest quality and inexpensive, he can make a ring for anything.

Thanks for the tips.
The only concern I have is that there seems to be play on the crankshaft not side to side but you can pull the crank in and out about 1/8. Checked with the lawn shop and found another 302 it had the same play ???
None of the others have this WHats up??
btw I think its only a 30cc.

only way to find out is to open it up...maybe it uses circlips to locate the bearings and one came loose?

Andyt, did you have any luck with the Echo 302? I'm looking at a couple now and was wondering how you made out.

Nope.
Like all things recently I got bogged down with other stuff.
It had a points/contact breaker ignition system so I kinda lost interest and continued with the Poulan 46
