Default mvvs 1.6 redhead

I am trying to adjust the midrange on this MVVS 1.6 gas engine (redhead)-it seems to be four stroking at 1/2 throttle, it has a great idle, great top end (swinging a 18X8 @ 7200 rpm) pulling a 80 inch GP chipmunk-what do you think I need to do-thanks in advance-I found the mvvs engine being discussed but got tired after reading 10 pages and not finding what I need-

My MVVS 1.60 gasser also "four strokes" at half throttle with good idle and the top end mix set at best power. If I lean the idle mixture to clear up the midrange then it is too lean to accelerate from idle. I just have just had to live with it. I have it in an 80 inch Hangar 9 P 51 which needs every bit of power the MVVS will deliver...so I just fly around full bore.

The rich midrange probably is muffler related. With a MVVS tuned pipe it sets in below 1/3rd throttle.
If you like to try, you can close the third idle jet in the carb (closest to the carb mouth) to improve the situation. If you goof, a new carb is due.

Foam wrap mounting is better than with silent bocks. Vibrations and electronics do not mix well.

There is no need to.. The plug boot grips on the plug.

look inside the bore. The throttle plate will uncover one idle jet after the other. (I am not talking needles!)

My needle settings do not hold. Seems like I have to tweak them a bit each time out. Admittedly, I don't take it out but once a month. On factory pipe, the engine runs super and sounds like a souped up 0.61 glow.

if you have to do that, the internal filter in the carb is on the verge of clogging.
