just purchased a bme 50 from Dons Hobby shop on friday and installed it on an DP Edge 540 T. I went to the field today and was not able to fly Because kept gettint glitch with motor running I moved everything around could not get to stop. A friend come up and said to move my ground from mount on bottom of motor to carb. Moved it there and now engine will not even start no matter where I move it now.

Check your hall effect switch. you probably shorted it out by trying to run the engine with the ground on the carb. Most carbs are insulated from the cylinder by a composite material to stop the heat transfer. Attaching the ground there would be like completely disconnecting the ground. Then the spark would be forced to return from the engine case through the ignition pickup sensor. That has happened to me on an engine that I had a couple of years ago. I failed to connect the ground wire and blew the switch on the first start attempt.

The HALL SENSOR (it goes by many names) is the sensor near the prop hub. It is a magnetically triggered switch. The magnet is IN the back of the prop hub. If you have no ground and try to run the engine, it is possible to damage the ignition module. The best thing you could do now is to mount the grounding strap on the plug ( I use a hose clamp and clamp it to the HEX part of the plug) and try to run it, see if it fires. leave the plug out of the engine and crank it over with the ignition on, check for spark. If it fires, put the plug in and run it with the ground strap hooked up like this, see how it runs.

Concreethead, I just got the new DP Edge 540 T last week. I too am new to gassers. I using a DA 50 in mine. How do you like the plane and what does it weigh with the BME 50? I'm figuring it to be around 14 lbs, hopefully less, but I'm interested to talk to someone who already has one. Thanks

Has anyone tryed the Bosch cap on the BME50? I have one and have thought about using the cap instead of what I am doing now. I now have the braided wire soldered to a round terminal then a bolt that goes throught one of the holes in the cooling fins in the head. I have lock washers on bith sides of the fin
