Default 26cc engines....Options

I'm building a .91 to 1.20 size aeroworks yak....Was going to put the evo .26cc gasser but would like to know if there are optional gas engines out there that I'm not aware of in the 26cc class... Thanks for the help...

Yes there are

You have the Evo 26cc (Yes there actually is a company called Evo Engines or something like that)and then the Evolution 26cc from Horizon (which is probably the one you are thinking about)

You have 3W and Brellelli (not sure that is spelled correctly) as well

Also check out http://www.rcshowcase.com They sell Roto, ZDZ and I'm pretty sure they both have something in your size

RE: 26cc

Evo 26 GT2 and the 3W28, the 3W has aprice of $545.00 to $685.00 ( insane) and Barelli
These are the three name brands, lots of new small gas engines from China, but no track record.

I fly the Evo GT2 26 and love it, it's a dog until it gets broken in and you change over a 40-1 mix
None of the littel gassers will give you very good 3D unless you build at, or under 10lbs don't expect much 3D if you build much over that. These small engines are better for scale flying and can pull a 13.5 lbs plane around nice.

The advantage of these three engines is the customer service after the sale, (Horizon and the EVO is the better of the two) and the after market mufflers you can get for these. You will be kinda left on your own when you buy the China no names and not much out there after market for parts.

I have two of the BCMA 26cc engines. They run great and there is a pitts style rear dump available for them. Adam Vorhees at BCMA builds them from stock SPE 26s and handles all of the warranty service and repairs on his and all SPE engines in the US. He's a great guy that gives outstanding service. Engine put out 2.3 hp at 8000 rpm. $275.00
http://bcmaengines.com/BCMA26.htm

Here's a video I shot when we broke in the one we put on my son's plane.
http://media.putfile.com/BCMA-26cc-Break-In--Maiden

You'll hear a lot of numbers and opinions tossed around on here about small engines but I've yet to see anyone post some hard evidence on them. Personally I would welcome it.

Re: 26cc

Round cowl on the yack , why not mount it on it's side ?? if the plug remains in the cowl I would, but if not inverted.

If you haven't got the plane yet why don't you look at one of these? Scroll down to the bottom and watch the video. Hard combo to beat for $400.00.

You can see the Brillelli 26ssr here;
http://www.brillelli.com/brillelli_engines_002.htm

I don't own one, but have heard great things about it. And the service and support from Scott at Brillelli is 2nd to none.

Re: 26cc

As you can see , lot's of input on this.

For what it's worth

Yes there are US ditributors for SPE and others BUT all you have to read any of many post with all the problems with the china engines, most have cheap plastic parts including the intake manifold and the ignitions they come with are hit and miss and most are not timed correct and are hard to start.

You may or may not have any troubles with one of these, some companys are making changes before they sell them they are so bad

To each his own , but you get what you pay for !

My Evolution was one of the first GT2 ( new ign) I have had it over Three years and it has been fantastic.

I will agree with you on Scott Ellingson. I consider Scott a friend and have spoken with him at length on these engines. His service and engines are outstanding. I have heard that a lot of others are too but so far only talk. I'm sure they must be good or they wouldn't stay in business but why don't we have any videos of these things. Nobody proud enough to make one???

The Brillelli 26 is def. a powerhouse.. the 2 engines that are going to compete with the Brillelli powerwise are the Evolution 26 on a pipe, and a G-26. The 3W is a good engine as well... but I think it was RTK that said a G-26 beat his 3W so it's going to be lower on the power list compared to the other 3.

Al, Unfortunately my 26 needs a home or I would shoot some video in a second for ya

The EVO 26 on a pipe sounds great! How much is that setup?? Never mind. Just looked it up on Chief Aircraft. They have it with the tuned pipe for right around $480. That's a good price if it is indeed the MVVS engine under a different name.

Well you have $399 for the engine and another $88 for the pipe setup. Nice little setup... but the B26 and G-26 will beat it on normal mufflers and cost less.

Yeah, they beat it on weight too. The engine alone is 1 pound heavier then the BCMA 26 and as near as I can see 1.5 pounds heavier then the EVO.

Ditto on the Brillelli. I have one, it's terrific, and Scott is too.

I would call Scott at Brilleli and talk to him personally about the 26. I did, and found out the 26 is actually a bit more than what we think. It pulls my 11lb Seagull SuperStar around like it has 30cc engine on it............[8D]

I have a friend with the SPE in a Funtana. Its OK but I wouldnt call it impressive. Its a piston port engine of fair quality and to be 100% honest a YS 1.10 will blow its doors off. We are both heading down different paths on this question and maybe someone can help. Hes buying a new Evo 26 and I am looking at the Roto 26. I like the Roto because its peak RPM is at 8000 instead of 9500. This tells me the porting is lower and the Roto engine probably has a broader power curve.
Does anyone have any experience with the Roto 26?

When I went shopping for 26cc motors I went through the same process. I ended up going with the Evolution 26 from Horizon. I felt this motor had one key advantage over the others; a narrow foot print. Its basically a glow like motor with a front carb and side discharge exhaust with a host of muffler options from a variety of vendors. In a Yak the width of the motor is not a concern but if you really want the motor to work in a 120 size bird then the motor ought to have a foot print similar to a 120 size glow/4 stroke. The Evo can also be mounted via rails like a traditional glow or you can use the radial rear mount which I have used in one of my planes. I now have two of these motors and love them. I'm not sure if they are the most powerful of all the alternatives but I can tell you they just run and run with no problems. And if you do have a problem you can't beat Horizons customer service. Just my 2 cents worth. Jerry.

I know it's very easy to do but don't confuse the stock SPE engine with the BCMA version. Adam does quite a bit of work on his engines and they perform great. It you glance through the gas engine thread you seem to see people having problems with all of the other engines but I hardly ever see anyone with a BCMA problem. Even in the BCMA thread. With regards to power bands, a good rule of thumb is to take the max rpm for the engine x 80%. That's right around where the engine usually makes its power.

is the current Evolution 26 still just a re-labeled MVVS? I think the MVVS engine is very good.
