RE: G20Ei is the best!!
Hey guys, I have a Phoenix Extra 330S 60-90 sized ARF that I will be next on the bench. Would this be a god candidate for the G20, or would I be better off with a YS110?
Thanks.
Thanks.

RE: G20Ei is the best!!
You're looking at an additional 11ozs nose weight compared with the 110 with mount (bare weight 41oz-standard muffler G20 vs 28oz for the fz110). You can move the rudder servo to the tail and move the batt way back. Using a flo thru muffler reduces weight by 2oz and a single lipo is sufficient for the ignition system. Keep the weight at about 9lbs and you'll have a great performing plane with unlimited verticals.
However that said, an fz110 will outperform the G20 if you're looking at all out flying as you'll have a lighter plane and higher rpms.

Don't forget that the YS 110 engine will need at least a 16 oz. tank whereas the G20 will give a 20 min. flight on 8 ozs. so that's a significant weight saving.

RE: G20Ei is the best!!
I have a friend that is haveing ignition problems with new ignitions on this motor. He has had 4 ignitions sent to him and all have gone bad with in 1 month of purchase, and Horizon is replaceing them for free and still trying to diagnose problem, he is flying them on funtana 90. Any suggestions would help Thanks

Could be something wrong with his install, or maybe something is shorting like a faulty switch and killing the ignitions. Or maybe just a bad batch of ignitions, but losing 4 in such a short span of time seems very strange. Maybe he should send the engine and ignition back to Horizon to have it thoroughtly checked.

CH Ignitions are the makers of possibly the best available electronic ignition systems for our model engines, and make a replacement unit for the G20. Their unit is lighter, not as power hungry or generates as much heat as the stock unit and requires a 4.8 v 700 mAh battery for approx. 2 hours of run time.
I have one of their RC exl units as a replacement on my G20 and it has performed flawlessly from day one. Their web page is located at CH Ignitions .com or for additional information contact them by phone at 307-857-6897.

RE: G20Ei is the best!!
Fly RC just did a review of the G26ei and the G20ei in the Feb issue. Very interesting. However I do have to disagree with the thrust figures which indicates a max thrust of 7.92lbs on a 16x6 apc.
My edge weighs a little over 9lbs yet i can hover and pull out of hover with a 16x6 apc prop.
Could it be a typo?

RE: G20Ei is the best!!
i have a super aeromaster bipe, i really want to start to get into gas for the fuel savings and the non-clean up after a day of flying. i have a OS 1.2 pumped surpass in it now but have not flown the plane yet. nows the time to change in my opinion. would the g20EI work for this application? do these engines need a pump to get the fuel up to the carb or do they use a pressure port off the muffler like the glows do? also is there a link to a spec sheet that shows the dimensions to see how well it will fit in the cowl? my all up weight without fuel and with the surpass engine is 9 and 3/4 lbs.

RE: G20Ei is the best!!
The bipe has a big round cowl in which the G20 will fit quite easily. As long as you are not expecting 3D type performance from your model, and can keep the AUW to a maximum of say 10 lbs. the model/engine combination should make for a good performer.

Gas fuels require the use of gas compatible tubing such as Tygon or Hayes black neoprene and Dubro brown coloured tank stopper. Stay clear of Sullivan black coloured gas stoppers as they are prone to breaking down in gas and will play havoc with your tank/carb systems.

RE: G20Ei is the best!!
My ignition system failed on me too after 10flights. Tried calling CH to no avail. I'm checking to see if Copperhead has rcexl ignition systems for the G20. Price is quite competitive.

RE: G20Ei is the best!!
karolh....
thanks for the reply....i'd like to move the tank back just a little to get it on the cg and with gas, from what i'm reading, i can use a smaller tank. this will allow me to get the battery for the ignition and the receiver up behind the firewall, if need be, for balancing, especally if i put a smoke tank in it. the only place for the smoke tank would be behind the cockpit.

RE: G20Ei is the best!!
After getting the Ultrastick Lite rigged and ready I started the G20ei up to give it a go and check rpm etc., this is the first small gasser for me, after doing DA and 3W, I am very impressed, it started right up and ran. It did not shake like a mother, it purrrrrred, I cannot say enough for the little Zenoah. We will see how it goes on it's maiden tomorrow if the weather will come around. It turned 8000rpm on a APC 16.5x 15W, is that acceptable? With the bigger gassers anything over 6000 is good.

RE: G20Ei is the best!!
I forgot to mention that I used a Rapter 50 fuel tank(350cc) in the USL and put it on the CG, I should get 15-20 minutes of flight time with the G20ei.,I will know for sure after tomorrow's maiden.

RE: G20Ei is the best!!
If that 8,000 rpm is with the stock muffler, switching to an Abell, B&B or equivalent aftermarket unit will get you approx. 800 more but will be a bit noisier than stock.
My G20 gives approx. 20 mins. of running time on an 8 oz tank. Hope the weather cooperated and the maiden flight went well.

RE: G20Ei is the best!!
Maidened the USL with the G20ei and all went well in the 20+ mph winds. The G20ei is a sweet running motor and ran flawless, the 16.5x5W is not the prop though, disappointed with it, the motor unloaded in the air at speed but did not have the pull I am looking for, I am looking for vertical pull and less speed. I will try the 16x6 APC that others have had success with on the next go. The plane balanced without any additional weight which was a surprise, I expected to add something to the tail. Has anyone tryed a 16x4 APC?

RE: G20Ei is the best!!
You're right. The 16x5w doesn't cut it. I switched to 16x6 and there was a very noticeable difference in performance.I think i'll stick to that prop. Good hover and good punch out.
A 16x4w will not be ideal i reckon. It will turn at about 9700rpm and not put out unless you have a light airframe.Didn't do it for me,made a lot of whooshing noise and no go!
I'll be trying a 16x8 and 17x8n next although I don't see those props in other than scale/sport applications.
