Zenoah G26 in H9 1/4 Cub
I love this engine! So easy to start and gobs of power on tap. I am almost done with my first gallon at 32:1 and am running a Zinger 16-8. I can't wait to finish breaking it in and switch to a 18-6 with 40:1 mix. I am so pleased with my first gas experience, I have the urge for another one now! I'm torn between a WWII warbird or a Extra260/300. I really want a twin I'd like to stick with Zenoah...probably the GT-80. Any suggestions??
I passed on the EI version since the factory Zenoah setup is power hungry. I wasn't interested in having another battery to keep charged.
One note for others considering the G26 in this plane. Don't listen to Horizon and get the 38mm EVO standoffs to mount it. Go with the 20mm mounts, they make it fit perfect and it balances with no extra weight. Unfortunantly, I hacked up the cowl a bit trying to make it fit with the wrong mounts before I realized it was going to be nose heavy with the long mounts.
Here are some pics.

I've got an SV26 for my first gas engine, and I have a 2000ma 6 volt NiMH on the ign. Works great ! I tried a new 4.8 700ma Nicad, and it would be down to about 10% in 30 minutes. The NiMH batt is down to 90% after maybe an hour, much better... These ign systems do pull some current, thats for sure. Mine is the $40.00 varity, but I would think that a super quality system would possibly draw less current due to better internal components, but im guessing. I was told that they draw around 300ma, but if thats true, my Nicad was not up to snuff. Wish I had an ammeter to plug in line just to see what it really pulls. Time to look for a good ammeter for 0 to 1 amp, and put some plugs on it. May be good for detecting goofy servo's as well.

I believe you're right. There are some aftermarket systems that are very efficient, however the Zenoah setup isn't attractive out of the box.

The G-26 is a nice little engine.. so is the G-62 if you put it on a diet.
However the GT 80 is very heavy and not the best engine unless you want to run a smaller prop and high rpms. There are much better options out there that are lighter and better performance.
I don't think I would waste my money on a twin engine in the 80cc range... the ZDZ 80s, DA 85, and 3W 85 singles walk all over the 80 twins available.

Good to know, thanks for the heads up. I really like the look of the twins. If one is good, two must be better??? Guess that isn't always the case...

Well most twins def. smoother and idle very nicely. However they don't always make more power than just because they are bigger... you have more mass to move.
Ultimately it depends on the plane and the type of flying you would like to do. There is definately an application for a GT-80.. but every day flying is not it in my mind.

What about a DA-100 in a this 35% Extra 260? [link=http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/AWX260.htm]Aeroworks Extra 260[/link] Any better twin/Extra combos anyone can suggest?
I like the idea of smoother twin that can purr...

to eaches own I say. [8D]
That would make for a very good combo. I haven't flown the 100cc version but flown the 50cc and it flies very well and is built well too. Comes with everything you could ever need. There are tons of videos out there with that combo as well.
Don't see how you could go wrong.

Go with a Warbird.. High speed low passes and formation flying are so much better than doing silly oll acrobats..[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Thanks for posting that link to the nice video of the J3 Cub. It sure is good to see some "normal" flying instead of all those hoverbatics. Great landing too. Best Regards Capt,n

RE: Zenoah G26 in H9 1/4 Cub
That is an amazingly detailed engine. I know the value of German engineering. This engine would make a perfect scale version of some Cubs I've seen with 2-cyl Franklin engines. I think it would fit really nice!!!
Your mount needs 108mm at the widest part of the mount, and the firewall mounting width is 136mm. Also, 65mm of your jugs would be visible outside the cowl and there is ample room for the exhaust too.
My propeller hub is 155mm from the firewall. Yours would be 33mm farther out at 188. Luckily, the cowl overlaps the firewall 30mm so you could just move the cowl forward a bit.

I will look into that. I would install everting I could way back if needed. It just may work. No hurry....I am going to get a new radio this summer. Probably a frequence hopping one. Best Regards Capt,n

RE: Zenoah G26 in H9 1/4 Cub
Just finished the first gallon. Here are some static rpm figures. I'm going with the 18x6 next flight as I think it will be better for this slow flying plane.
16x8 wood Zinger = 8300 rpm
18x6 nylon Master Airscrew Classic Series = 8900 rpm
