3w-85xi iddle help
Ok, I have this engine and have taken care of the vibration problem, which turned out to be the plane instead of the engine. However I`m having problems with the iddle for it. The engine is at 6700 rpms with a mejzlick 26x10 more than enough for the 24 pounds the plane weights.
The problem is that I can`t get it to iddle reliably. The low end neddle is at about 1.5 turns right now, so I get from iddle to full without hessitation, but when I pull down on the throttle it takes a while to come down to iddle (the reliable iddle is almost at 2000 rpms) if I set it to a lower iddle the engine dies as soon as I touch down.
I have tried opening the low end or closing it. If I open it a little I will have a more reliable iddle but I`ll get hessitations when pushing to full throttle (these hessitations take a while to go away so it can go to full power). If I close it, the engine will most surelly die when I push the throttle.
Yesterday I pulled the carb out and cleaned it, it di have a little dirt on the little screen but not much.
I don`t know if a bigger prop will help the iddle, nor if the engine might not be breathing enough, even though I installed a glass fiber tube that goes from the front of the cowling to where the carb is. This tube gave the engine 450 rpms more. but I do not know if it changes the settings for the carb when flyng.
Any sugestions or help?
Thanks,
John
Ohhh I forgot, the engine has 5 gallons thru it still using break-in oil at 40:1 and the high neddle is at about 1 turn from open.

RE: 3w-85xi iddle help
If you are comfortable taking the reed block off, do so, see if the reeds are sitting flush. Warped, misinstalled reeds will affect idle. Check for intake leaks. To fix try applying a small amount of med. CA around the outside of the gaskets. Or replace existing gaskets.
Try moving the timing around till it idles best.
Check the spark plug gap .018" for cm6 is about correct.
Try using a 4.8v battery, it might give a hotter spark.
Check hal sensor gap. About .020 to .030"
