ZDZ 160B2 VS 160 Champion
This post is for anyone who is intersted it the power difference between the two engines. In the last week I have ran both engines and here is what I have found out. Both engines were run on a test stand with 12in headers into KS tuned pipes(very quiet) The prop used was a bambula 32X10 great prop but NOT a RPM king, but that is another story. Both engines were run on 40:1 petrolum based oil for the first gallon and then switched to 40:1 Honda HP2. Let me say that both engines started and ran right out of the box both were smooth. I must admit that the champion with its tillison carb has a better mid range and is very linear is response. Now for the RPM figures both engines ran the same RPM, 5250. The champion is clearly the winner in the looks department and is a little lighter but not much, Oh BTW the champion is also the winner in the cost department at several hundred dollars higher. As always these coments are just my .02

this may not change things much -- but my own running of 60/80 engines shows that the exhaust system -for good performance is NOT the same -on them
In a nutshell - the 60 runs best -for me - on the JMB 60mm dia can -- and the 80 on the 70mm-or 80mm cans.
also - you are under the design power band at 5200- (5500-6500)
Also a can and header length for one size engine is not going to work the same on another size/design.
The 60 loves a very short header and the 50 -a very long one --
just something to consider --

I will be trying a Menz 32x10 next week and I would expect the RPM to come up. Dick as for header length I have experimented a lot on my 80 single and 80 twin. My 80 twin with KS pipes loves a 10in header the longer I go the more power I loose. My 80 single likes a 11 to 12in header longer does nothing for performance on the ground or in the air. Just my .02

That is consistant with my findings on the 80 single and the 40 (half the 80 twin) .
The 60 is timed a bit lower and so far - seems to like a shorter setup than the 80-
However- I have been trying to start at rpm setups which are into the designed power range.
Having tried comparisons with pipes-- can and non tuned cans ( JMB)- it is interesting to me how each engine responds to the different approaches at making em quiet and increasing torque.
I had a couple of the 80 twins - very smooth but I liked the 80 single better - -less exhaust system to mess with - etc..
I am keen on seeing the results you get -
My 210 on the JMB largest cans really cooks - 5900+ on the 34x12 Bambula -- and extremely quiet.
If you can - try larger volume on the 160 setup -
My 160 Champ has yet to run - just got it but I tried a friend's engine - on the JMB and long pipes -- we really did not get it sorted out -time thing - but the 70x4000 JMB's were really quiet - more so than the 80x100 Krumscheid quiet pipes.

To amswer F1 -- tuning is done to get a smooth throttle up to full power - at rest - static.
This does NOT provide max power - the idea is to get improved power =yet not sacrifice throttle response or max torque.
The torque will improve -some -depending on the engine.
As for the 60 --on a 24x10 Menzs PROP --header overall 10"=11" - TYPICALLY - THIS ENGINE IS TIMED A BIT DIFFERENTLY (PORTS) COMPARED WITH THE 80 .
You will see more power as you shorten the header but the engine may get touchy -depending on the prop load.
You should see somewhere around 6300-6600 rpm - typically.
This engine also works extremely well on the small 60 JMB can -on a very short header - actually quieter than the KS but a bit less power .
If'n I was racing these suckers - the setup would be much different --
