Default A&M Sachs 4.2

I aquired an older Sachs with the mag ignition and was wondering if a broken fin on the rear, third from the top, will hurt the motor. This engine has great compression and I will convert it to electronic ignition if it's OK. It's about 6.2 lbs with the magneto and spring start. Any thoughts?

It will be fine with the broken fin. These engines tend to overcooled anyway in our application so a broken fin is no big deal. I converted and sold Sach 4.2 engines for 3 years so have some experience with them. I wanted to see how light I could get one so I removed all fins from one just to see how it cooled. It did run too hot once all the fins were gone but that's a long way from one being broken. Put the ignition on and go. Your great grandchildren will be flying it some day.
