Need some guidance on which muffler would provide the best performance on a Zenoah G26 and still meet sound requirements. The stock muffler seems to be very restrictive.

Best performing systems are the rather pricey tuned pipe units from Mac's Mufflers and Toni Clarke that can turn an 18x6 in the 10,000 rpm region. For the majority of us sometimes financially challenged folks, side dump or pitts style mufflers from Abell, B&B Specialities, Bisson or JTec work quite well giving an increase of approx. 800 rpm, with the pitts style Bisson and Jtec mufflers being the quietest.

Thanks for the info. I will look into some of these. Really dont need to turn 10k so the pitts style might be the answer. I have a muffler from B&B and it only gave about 500 rpm over stock and is very, very loud.

Vanguard,
Need a big favor.
I have an RCS 140 and recall reading in some post moons ago that a B&B muffler for the G26 would fit. Could you please post the distance of the mounting bolts at their center on either the muffler or the cylinder head.
The B&B muffler would be lighter than the Pitts muffler I have. Placing the engine in a Carl Goldberg Sukhoi and want to save weight in the nose.
Thanks,
Pete

This one measures 35mm or 1.375" center to center on the bolt holes. If it would fit and you are interested in it, I have the small Bennett muffler that I would make you a good price on. But keep in mind that it is louder than the stock muffler. Our field has kind of strict noise limits so I really dont want to use it there. It did improve about 600 rpm over the stock muffler.

Abell RC has a muffler for the G 26 that will add about 1000RPM . With my stock muffler I was getting about 8200, and with the Abell muffler It was over 9000. It's a one pipe exhaust, fairly large opening. They have a web site.

www.abellrc.com or www.bennettbuilt.com both have mufflers as described above. They are exhaust diverters, and DO offer free flowing performance over most any other in cowl solution. My only warning is that they are '''loud'''. Our club doesn't have noise restrictions, and we had three of these mufflers on 26's in our club, and the last of us changed to something else because of too many complaints. Between the two mentioned, I would recommend the Abell, my post is only to warn you of the noise, if that is of any concern where you fly.
As Karol said above, the Toni Clark or Macs products exhausts are going to be the best performing, and cost you accordingly. The Abell and Bennett will be smallest, lightest, and perform well, but loud. The happy medium regarding price, sound and performance would be a wrap around pitts style from any of the makers listed above.

If you simply want something quiet that is less restrictive than the stock muffler, Bisson offers both a wraparound and inverted style muffler. I use the inverted one on my Zenoah G23 (converted to EI) and it runs 9100+ rpm on a 17x6APC. You should get close to that rpm on an 18x6 or 17x8 once your G26 fully breaks in. My G23 picked up 1200 rpm from when it was new on that same prop!
