Default Manifold to Canister joining tube keeps bursting!!

On my 3W 70 twin the silicon joining tubes between the manifolds and the cans keep bursting, and mostly in the sky!! I get about 25 mins running before one joiner will burst then loss of back pressure etc and one cylinder drops out!!

How can i stop the joiners from bursting? Am i using the wrong type of connecter?

Regards

Andrew

Are you using the Teflon connectors that 3W sells? Also, your header pipe (manifold) should almost touch the inlet tube of the can. If you have a large opening, the heat will cause the coupler to fail.

No, i'm using a tubing the local model shop sells for joining the pipe to manifold. There is no gap between the can and manifold. I'm thinking of wrapping a thin piece of ali around the joiner then securing it. This should stop it from expanding.

There are several types of silicone available - try Aerotrend's website - http://www.aerotrend.com/

Alternately, you could use machined Teflon available from KS through Desert Aircraft - http://www.desertaircraft.com/

I believe that's your issue. The heat on the gas motors is too hot for the silicon flex tubes. Try the teflon that 3W or KS sells. Just make sure it is the correct size for BOTH the manifold and pipe. (KS sells units that will addapt form one size pipe to another)

Hope this helps...........Mark

I have had to deal with the same issue. I cant use the Teflon because my header and pipe doesn't line up straight with each other. Need something a little flex able.

A really quick fix for this problem is to drill and tap a 4-40 bolt through the connecting material and in to the header, then do the same on the cannister side.

I always understood that gasoline and silicon were incompatible. That gas would turn silicon to mush. Also why you couldnt use silicon fuel line for gas. Correct me if I'm wrong.
