Default DL 50 or 3MM Engine?

Which is the best engine, the DL 50 or the 3MM 50. They are both close in price. I have a DA 50, excellent engine, but I am looking for a less expensive 50 cc for my Christian Eagle. Look forward to receiving comments on which one I should go with. Thanks.

DL is a "clone" of the DA, the 53 has the reads on the side, is slightly heavier, slightly smoother, slightly less power, has 3 bearings rather than the 2 in the DL and DA. Tom at WildHare RC has a hop-up kit for the 53 that makes it as powerful as the others. Either would be a good choice, other good choices would be Aera 51 , MT62 and MT57.

Soarrich pretty well summed it up.

I own a 3mm that I bought because its case mounted carb and short length best fit a scale application I had. Great running engine and much smoother running overall than my DA or even my excellent Taurus. My 3mm has the hop up kit and I would highly recommend this engine.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy the DL either if it fit my application at the time. But then there are quite a few excellent engines coming out these days. The Area 51 looks interesting as does the MT57 plus about a dozen others. These Chinese engines are really coming of age.

There is no such thing as "the best engine" but there are many good engines. Do your home work and pick one that best fits your application. Sometimes a side carb works or fits best in a particular airplane, sometimes a rear carb works better. Maybe an engine on standoffs works best, sometimes a radial mount works better. Not sure which one would best fit your Eagle. It is great to have choices.

Thanks for the information. It is great to know that the competion is picking up and we now have a wider choice of good engines. Right now I am leaning towards the DL.

Thanks again.

Equipped with the W/H reed kit the 3mm is a match for the DL and is smoother. Should last a lot longer as well.

The DL is by far the easiest starting motor I owned, so far. Tons of power and smooth as silk, too. Idles nicely at 1500 and revs a 23x8 over 7K.
