Thank you gentlemen. Is this now the only size inline twin they carry over 100 in disp?

And would still like to know if there are others.

Default In-Line Twin

Ray,

I had the same dilemma looking for a large In-Line twin for my 1/4 Scale P-40 project. While attending a small Swap Meet/Expo in DuPage Co Illinios, I found a motor manufacturer call Huskey Challenger. It is a machine shop that modifies Huskvarna Chain Saw engines into Model Aircraft engines. He has a number of sizes and specializes in building racing engines for the large Reno style planes. He has built a number of these for Dennis Crooks who is now running them in his competition scale models.

I ordered and received an 8.8 cu-in In-Line twin, with magnisium crankcase and carb elbows and a custom soft mount. The motor weighs 10 lbs, without ignition systems. I paid around $2500 for this and it has been run on the bench. It turns a 28-20, 4 blade at around 6000 rpm!

I have also seen a 1/4 scale P-51 with one of his 12 cu-in twins and the owner was very happy with the power and the manors of this motor.

I do not have his contact information handy, but he is located in a western suburb of Chicago.

I hope this helps,

Paul

Default Husky Challenger engines

The gentleman who makes the engines is Russell Stoltz....

He works out of his son's machine shop in Elk Grove Village IL

Here's the address and phone number:

Challenge Tool Co
(847) 640-8085 60 Joey Dr
Elk Grove Village, IL

Russ usually doesn't get in until after 9:00 am and may be out at the Doctor's, as his health hasn't been that great lately...

His work is top notch and not cheap...the only limitation I've found is getting mufflers, as he doesn't make them...so I think you'd have to go to Bennett or someone like that. I just posted 3 pics of the "big" inline twin in my gallery so have a look and let me know what you think....

Heard two of his 3.2 engines in Dennis Crooks P-38 at the St. Charles Rally of the Giants a couple of weeks ago.....what a sweet sound, almost like the full size engines...

Default inline twin

Ray:
I got a 3W 120 inline for my Fiberclassics spitfire on R/CU. It is out of production, but 3W will introduce a 100 inline this fall. Taurus engines also makes inline twins. I think they are in Machigan

Default Thanks

Gentlemen,
thank you very much for the information.
I would love to see some cooling presentations that are being used. The p-40 is not too tough, but I will be doing a mk1 spit from scratch and could use any ideas that are out there.

Ray:
My P-40 has an 80 3W inline with no ducting. Never had a problem. In the spitfire, I am working on a duct system from the scoop on the bottom.

EVO makes a 150 in line twin and a 150 V engine. The V engine should be easier to cool. http://www.evo-engines.com/products/....php?family=10
