1st flight with new dl55
well i had my first flight with my new dl55 yesterday , mounted in a wildhare 88inch edge, had to move everything as far foward as possible and its slighty tail heavy, but the plane flew great, this engine has seen 2 tanks of fuel durring break in in the backyard, out of the box it started after prime , arrived lean on the high end,, lawnboy ashless at 32-1, tons on power great low idle, easy to start, turning a 22-8 nx, the only thing i noticed is the screws for the muffler seem alittle short.other than that it looks like a keeper, will try to post a few pic this weekend.

graygoose,
do yourself and your new motor a favour and ditch the Lawnboy. Buy a bottle of Pennzoil 2-stroke for aircooled engines at local Autopart stores. Muc better oil to break in a new motor. That's everybodys opinion here on RCU.

Hey Ron, Yes the DL-55 is a great motor, stats easy, runs like clock work with power to spare! I did have a couple of dead stick occasions that pvoves to be a tiny bit lean on the lower needle and was fixed without fuss.
The C-Arf Yak is the nicest airframe I have flown, and I have been in and out of the hobby since 1990. It weighs in at 7.815kgs but when its flying it feels light, it floats around without wanting to do nasty stalls or drop a wing
so landing this baby is very predictable. However if you want to push it, it will do pretty much anything you can dish out. I was warned by a couple of our club members that the 50cc sice Composite models were too heavy
But I watched a video of the Yak 2.1 flying on youtube and it did not look to fly like a brick as been discribed and the landing was nice and slow too. So I went ahead and purchased one and have not looked back. I now
get comments like, "wow, that fly's so nice !" and "That does everything effortlessly" !!, So, the only thing that troubles me is what the hell is my next project going to be Because I have now been spoilt and it will have to be somthing really
special to beat or even equal this Aircraft......
I currently flying a 2.2 metre Su-26 with a DL-50, a 1.8 metre Su-26 with a Zenoah 23cc and a 2.25 metre Yak 54 with a MT-62cc, all fly well but not as well as my Compy.

Ivan I had done the same as you. I stopped flying back in about '93 and got back into it Christmas of 07. In '93 my son came to live with me and I was doing the single dad thing and didn't have the time for it. After he got older I went out and got my pilots license in 98 and flew the real ones for a bit, but it got too costly. Then one day I was down in my shop looking up at a Super Sportster I had built back then and decided to get back into it. After thinking about it I couldn't believe 15 years had passed since I had last flew a model. Must say I am having the time of my life and the club we have up here has some great people in it. I just sold one of my DL50's in an Extra 300 to one of the guys and now I have him hooked on gas.
