RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
While he may have forgotten to drop a zero, most engines do run better after fully broken in, which usually takes several gallons or hours in the air.

Don't think I hit 2000 yet, but I know I'm over 1800. I quit logging at the first of the year. Went through a gallon of gas in the last three days, which is about 4.5 hours of engine run time and there is a weekend coming up so got to get some more gas. Of course, I can't get in six flights a day when there are 30 people at the field. Anyway, I may have to go back to work if gas gets any higher.

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
Well after around 12 to 15 flights, my reconditioned engine has lost a couple of muffler cover bolts and there is oil seepage at the engine flange were it accepts the two muffler fastening bolts. The missing cover bolts are now allowing for oil sepage on the engine box and fire wall. I guess I will look for other options for when the muffler fails. With the Funtana, the engine must be removed to resecure or tighten the bolts.

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
I finally flew the Syssa engine I purchased last year, on my Giant Big Stik.
The engine fired up on the first try w/o touching the needles.
I then set it up VERY rich for the first flights using 32:1 mix.
Before the second flight I was taching 7850 RPM's on the ground swinging an 18x6 wood prop.
By the fourth flight the engine jumped up a good 400 rpm. This was VERY noticible.
The engine has plenty of power for my Stik and I'm able to hover the plane at 60% throttle.
Nice little engine except for the aforementioned muffler issues. I may have to get another.

Just an FYI on the muffler issues. I understand that there has been a redesign and I think it's available, I know a friend of mine has a new muffler from Todd. I don't know what the details are, better to contact Syssa edirectly.

I will be doing a Product Review in High Flight Magazine for the Fall issue using the new version of the Rascal 110, and a follow-up with the floats, whenever they are available.
I plan to use one of Todd's engines too, and will take lots of info from this thread concerning some of the minor problems found along the way.
It looks like the first thing I should do is cut a bigger hole in the front of the cowl.
I also see where Tru-Turn offers a cut-out spinner and back plate, basically for electrics, to allow more air flow over the motor, through the spinner. Maybe we can talk them into making them available for glow and gas engines too....

I'm not sure why you're running the oil mixture so low, the manual recommends 40:1 for break in. I ran mine rich when I first got it and all I did was foul the plug.

32:1 has more oil in it than 40:1.
Yeah, it's spitting oil, I may go ahead and dilute it a bit more after the next tank full.

The manual has this information:
Recommended Gas/Oil Mix: Any High Quality Fully
Synthetic Oil such as Klotz or Amsoil 100:1 Saber
Professional 1.5 oz packet and mixed with 1 gallon of gas
yields 85:1 gas/oil ratio.
I am using Stihl 2 cycle oil mixed at 50:1. Would be afraid of going to 100:1. Any comments. I have about 10 gallons of fuel through my Syssa 180HP 30cc engine and am happy as a lark. No loose muffler, still on original spark plub (have extras ready), Original prop.

I think you mean high, not low.

Stihl makes three types, one petroleum, one a blend of petro and synthetic and one fully synthetic. The type may make a difference on the mix rate. Synthetics usually require less oil in the mix. Which Stihl is being used?

This is what the cowl of my YAK looks like after three flights - obviously some oil coming from the front bearing. Problem or normal? Engine is still breaking in - had around 5 litres on 40:1 dino oil an running very well.
cheers,

I saw something similar on my first engine after about 250 flights. The front bearing seal gave out and Todd replaced the bearing for me. The engine has at least 200 flights on it since and the leaky seal is no more. If you only have a handful of flights on the engine I would say, not normal. Is it a problem? I tend not to think of bearing issues as problems, just maintenance items

I just finished a few more flights on my engine with the muffler mod to prevent it from coming loose. Seems to be working okay, I have run three gallons of fuel through the engine without a problem and it used to come loose every week., The fix is fairly simple,; but it does require a little work with a cutting tool, Dremel or similar, and a cut-off wheel. Details are in my gallery if you want to try it at your own risk, etc.

Nice looking mod. If mine comes loose again I may have to try this to see how it works. I contacted JTECH and they make a replacement muffer for about $55.00. Don't know if it would be any better or not.

Right now, all I have is a sample of one, so there isa slight risk that it may not work for all engines and installations. Even with only one sample, I'm 98% sure it will not come loose if the instructions are followed. So far, I have over fifty flights without a problem.
