Default Do I need to use the air funnel on a Zenoah G20?

I am installing a Zenoah G20 in the new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft, and you need to cut a large opening in the cowl to fit the air funnel/velocity stack. Does the motor need the air funnel? Or is it not necessary? Thanks!

Sessholvlaru,

I've had my share of G26, G38, and G62 engines and the only difference I've seen is without the velocity stack the carb will spit a little fuel.

I see absolutely no difference in how my G20 performs with or without a velocity stack, so I am assuming the same should hold true for your install, and I find fuel blow back from the carb on this engine almost nil.

You should have approx. an inch, or so, (minimum) of space between the carb intake and cowl for proper air flow to the carb.

If you run your engine without the velocity stack (air funnel), the air funnel police will kick in your door and take you away and your identity will be erased forever. Otherwise, it's purely a question as to how the air flow over the carb is affected.

OK, I'll bite: how much power loss is there without the velocity stack? [sm=confused.gif]

You do not need to use the velocity stack. What power loss without it??? Can we presume the engine was adequately tuned, or was it not?
