Default Prop orientation for hand starting

I have a new DLE 30 that starts fine with an electric starter, but will not prop even when hot. Is there a special prop orientation required for hand starting? I currently have the prop at the 1 to 1:30 position, but have not been successful in getting a start regardless of flips. The engine is new and it has very little compression, but seems to run fine.

1:30 - 2:00 is about right for a right hander

The only thing els I can think of is you need to flip it kind of smartly.
It should start []

1 Choke on and flip until the motor pops.
2 choke off and flip until it starts.
and yes prop at 1:00

I had to learn how to slap the prop on one of my engines. The slap is faster then a flip and the increased rpm makes it easier to start

Also, how much time is on the engine? I've seen a few take a half gallon or more before they would start easily by hand. My DL50 used to take 2 or 3 flips after the first flight of the day but now with many many many gallons through it she starts first flip every time after the first start of the day.

Did you use the spark plug that came with the engine? It is a long shot but maybe it is shorting and the electric starter lets it hit more times to finally start. Also what procedure do you use to hand start it?

Thanks all, it may be just too new to have enough compression yet.

I am using the stock spark plug and do get a kick on choke only. I may not be flipping long enough or quite fast enough yet.

I will keep trying as I break it in.

Thanks again.
