DLE 30 or SPE 43 for GP Su-31?
I have a Great Planes Su-31 that I have an O.S. 1.60FX in, and I want to convert it to gas. I just began flying my OMP 30% Yak on a DLE 55 and I know that if I don't convert the Sukhoi, I will never fly it. The stats of these two motors seem almost identical (except displacement, of course), with the DLE spinning more R's. Both claim to swing an 18 to 20 inch prop. My Sukhoi weighs about 12.5 pounds now with the O.S. and performance is good, but not stellar. The DLE is lighter, but also more expensive. This is important because I want to keep it light and don't want to shift servos around. I am very happy with my DLE-55 and would buy another DLE motor in a second, but I figured I would heed some advice here before purchasing.

The DLE has a bit more power than the OS 1.60 and is more economical to run. For all out 3D you will want to keep the weight around 10~11 pounds from what I have seen. The SPE should have a bit more punch but is not as well made in my opinion. If you want it to really rock put a DLE 55 on it. It will bolt right in but it may require some tail weight to balance and will raise the wing loading.

Yeah I want to avoid putting a 50 on it for that reason, and because I already have one in my Yak. This is an all out 3D plane for me, so maybe go the 30?

Well I have decided to go with the DLE-55 after some more research. My reasonings:
1) DLE-55 is actually (and surprisingly) the same weight as the SPE 43.
2) DLE-55 has TWO whole more horses than the SPE 43 (3.4/5.5)
3) DLE-55 is exactly the right length from standoffs to thrust washer for the Sukhoi.
4) A buddy has a NIB DLE-55 he may want to trade me. [>:]
I will most likely have to run a 3 bladed prop for ground clearance, but I'm willing to do that.

TOWERHOBBIES recommend engine for this plane are glow 1.50-1.80 cu in (25-29 cc) 2 stroke like OS160FX .or gas engine 1.90-2.60 cu in (32-43 cc) gasoline 。 they combo FUJI43CC gas engine for this plane . but FUJI43 are total weight 4.03 lbs (1,829 g) with muffler。 so engine choice from 30CC to 55CC are works for this plane if engine total weight (including muffler) are less than 1.8KG. good luck and have fun !

Have a couple GP 27%. Started with a CRRC 40cc, 3.95hp, Have to say they flew and that is about all! Put a Turnigy HP50, 5.5hp, very similar to DA 50 and DLE55. Now they are rockets. And a lot of fun to fly. The larger engine is a good choice!
