Default Gas engine advice please

Hello all. I have been out of the hobby for about 15 years, and I have decided to give it another go. I am waiting for Bruce Tharpe to make the Flyin King available for my "trainer" to re-hone my skills. In the mean time I decided to build a Four Star 120 as my second plane. I do not know if this classifies as a giant but it is a big airplaane. I am wanting to go gas for this project, and I am looking at a CRRCGP26R for power as it is affordable and will fit inside the cowl cheeks with minor modification. Does anyone have any experience with this engine and can you give me any feedback on it? If this is not a good choice can you give me a good alternative engine that will fit my criteria? Thank you in advance for your response.

There are a lot of other engines in the 26-32cc range that should be looked at also.

Do not shop on cheapest price alone

Read the threads about the different engines and consider their advantages and pitfalls

It is the JC-V2 that they call the Aerovate brand.

The only 28cc class engine that I know of out of China that has a true billet machined crankcase, if that really matters,

Hi,

I built a 4*120 and put a 3w-24 cc engine on it. The plane flew but not very aerobatic. The 3W-24 has every bit of the performance as the engine you are considering if not a significant amount more. I then put on a 3W-48 twin with a 3 blade prop and the plane came alive. Not exactly 3D but a lot of fun. You may be disappointed with plane performance with only a 26 cc engine on it.

All in what you want the plane to do, A 4 Star is not built to be a fast or aerobatic airplane, They are a good 2nd plane for anyone moving up. If you fly them to fast the wings will flutter, ask me how I know. LOL

Thank you for the responses. I am not looking to do 3D, just having fun flying while throwing in some basic aerobatics. The Issue I have found with going over 30cc is the actual size of the engines themselves. I am not prepared at this point to sacrifice looks for performance. I guess I live by the age old saying that it doesn't matter how well you do whatever you are doing just as long as you look good while doing it.

Just look at all the options, Most 20-30cc class engines weight within oz's of each other, plan your built around the engine you decide on, I still say the engine I posted is the best bang for the buck.

I have 2 CRRC GF26i v2 engines ... one in a Goldberg Wild Thing 120 and the other will probably go in my H9 1/4 J3 (old 108" wing) as it currently has a YS F120 that is really way more than I need. I don't do 3D. I'm a scale flyer that has fun.

<hr />Yes them was the fun old days. Sometimes I go back &amp; read some of the olded threads. My opinion on some of the china made engines...we might be better off doing engine conversions. Heck I read about quite a few converted gas engines that would fly that 4* 1.20 airplane. That airplane may be the one to get when I get real old &amp; slow...then plane &amp; my speed will match!!!!
