Some cautious optimism.

Did a startup and found the setup worked. Easy starting. As mentioned before the adjustment needles are on the bottom and not easily accessible. I had to shut the engine down to make some adjustments to the high speed mixture. The results were an idle I couldn't have imagined. The transition and high end still needs some fiddling but it ran steadier than it ever has. Didn't tach it due to cold temps so I have to wait for Spring for a flight report. Buried somewhere in this thread is mentioned, almost in passing, that the fix to these problems is changing the carb. I hope that's the case.
