I'm betting that the engine was run hot and the ring is stuck.
Take it apart and clean out all the carbon and make sure the ring groove is clean. Add baffling to the engine and make sure that you do not run hot and have fun.
I have seen a few that came to me like this.

Is this a single or a twin? I bought a nib twin from the hobby shop last week and its been nothing but problems. .Bad reeds. Cylinder bolts sucking air.Timing was off ..I finally made block off plates for the exhaust and intake so i could check for air leaks..It leaked everywhere..Front seal, Base gaskets Reed block .After new gaskets and such it runs but idles is horrible.I guess i need a new front bearing too.Oh and one of the spark plug mating surfaces is so porous the plug gasket wont seal. But on a good note is has lots of compression lol

my engine is a single cylinder my only complant with this engine is low compression
and the muffler loosening up . as far running ilding midrange top end the engine is great. it pulls my 15 lbs airplane goodwell good lock with your engine

Thanx i got my first real flights on it last night.Ran ok a bit rich and still wont lean out and hold settings.I think ill try new bearings and a carb i have from a zenoah....I must say it starts great .Makes ok power so far with only a small amount of running ive gotten it to do.I didnt have any flame outs either.Time will tell.
