Electronic Ignition Module
What are the guidelines for installing an electronic ignition module?
Where is best site for installation, better inside of fuse or is it ok out on, say, the engine box. Is it ok to be in close proximity to battery? How far from reciver? (2.4 GHz if that matters) Thanks, Robert |
RE: Electronic Ignition Module
soft mount
rule of thumb 12" from receiver Battery position is more important for weight and balance |
RE: Electronic Ignition Module
Yes, I am going to soft mount but I guess my real
question is WHERE? Thanks |
RE: Electronic Ignition Module
Where ever it fits but somewhere close to the spark plug is best. Seriously, it's not that critical, put some foam under it and zip tie it to the side of the engine box, or inside the fuse, it doesn't matter. Just don't tie ignition wires together with wires leading to the Rx. Keep a few inches separation between the module and sevos, 8"-10" from Rx. </p> |
RE: Electronic Ignition Module
Depends on the design of your plane.
The ones with the box behind the engine usually have the ignition mounted on the side of the box in the cowl area. Planes like a giant stick will have the ignition module mounted in the front of the tank compartment |
RE: Electronic Ignition Module
Inside the cowl area where the air can be very hot? If cooling airflow is OK then that will work. otherwise, the hot air will case a severe shortening of the ignition's life span. Today it works well, tomorrow it won't.

RE: Electronic Ignition Module
Not trying to drag this out but: I think I will mount it inside the engine box BUT
I may have to have batteries far forward for balance. Any problem with the module being very close to batteries, flight pack battery in particular. I want to thank everone for the help. I am an old guy with a lot of gas engines but they are, up until lately, of the mag type and I am not familiar with the ignition modules. Heck, some of my engines have POINTS! Thanks again. |
RE: Electronic Ignition Module
You can mount the igniiton module and all batteries right next to each other without any problem.

Thanks Jody! I just installed one of those Miracle dual switches with fuel dot from
Valley View in the plane. Looks GREAT. You Folks are a GREAT outfit! ....Robert |
