MDL 35cc Engine Ques.
 

I am going to purchase my first gas engine soon and I am intrested in the MLD 35cc as I like what I see in the specs, it will be going in a scratch built 66in span Pitts 12, I originally planned using my3250 Super Tigre but with the costand avaliablty of glow fuel I am going to change directions (I havea lot of engine experience). that saideverything is its own animal. I am open to other mfg. DLE, RCGF, ect. but do like what MLD shows for power, looking at the forums it looks like people like its power but there are several complaints about the Ignition I am wondering if this is common or an isolated problem,or has it been corrected. If the power is as advertised it would not bother me to replace the ignition before even trying to run it ??

I don't know much about the MLD35, but with the MLD28 i had there where some ignition problems. I have heard the same about about the 35 here on these forums. Easy fix, just replace it with a RCexl ignition. If you understand that buying it will more than likely cost an extra 50-75 bucks for ignition. go for it. Or you can get the DLE 30 that has a very good track record and close to the same power.

If it was an isolated problem there wouldn't be so many complaints about the ignition failing. They've claimed it was fixed a couple times before but I've not seen any evidence of it, meaning the ignitions still seem to fail unexpectedly and prematurely. The MLD35 is a pretty good engine with the most power in it's class, just go into it knowing you'll likely need to replace the ignition more sooner than later.

You could get the Super tigre converted to run on gas if you really like it.

I think I would just get the DLE, but that is me.
