You can't go wrong with a Vess. I would try a 20A or 20B:D

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser

I have not read all of this thread because there is so much negative input about the 33GT. But a lot of good info here.

I bought one and it is a good looking engine. It is my first gasser and it is going into my first Giant Scale a TWM P-51 25%. RCPRO is starting a new Racing class that will be using this airframe and any 38cc gas engine that has reed valve induction. No rotary valve engines as they usually cost more (but, I notice some prices are dropping).

Since I am on a vertical learning curve about gassers and GS airframes I am reading as much as I can. I don't assimulate as well as I use to so I have to reread a lot until I get actual flying time and field experiance. I have been flying and racing Nitro since the early 70"s but a lot of dots do not connect as you guys that are here know.

Basic engine is mounted in the airframe and I will be running a tuned pipe and MAC Products will be coming out with a header in the next two weeks for the OS 33GT. I also hade to find a spinner adapter to replave the standard prop nut as there aren't any extra threads for one.

Pic of my engine and plane.

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser

Did the TWM GS mustang come without the upper plywood across the top of the firewall? Or did you remove it? This will weaken the mounting of the firewall. Do you plan to install/replace some of that plywood?

I have an older TWM GS mustang and it has that plywwod.

Ed

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser

Hi Ed, I only have it removed as it was lite ply and I will be replacing it with regular aircraft ply and when it is reinstalled it will help with the strength of the motor box/firewall structure. Great question!!

My GT33 keeps quitting when I land. I'm flying a 1/4 scale super cub off a grass field and the thing quits every time, even after the softest touch down humanly possible. Idle on the ground is solid. In flight is wonderful. I don't get it.  Anyone else have trouble with this??

BarryReade 07-14-2012 01:22 PM

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser

MB, sorry, I haven't even ran mine yet. Hopefully someone will come along with the exact fix you need. I would look at the idle jet and try a bit different setting if it was mine.

Lost my woodruff key. Do I need to buy [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBXTD&P=7]Key from Tower[/link] or can I simply get a #9 from anywhere?

Also, what's the proper way to install this key?

BarryReade 07-22-2012 06:06 AM

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser

If it calls for a #9 any #9 will do. I have found that sometimes if it isn't top quality I will have to chamfer the edges on the half moon side to get it to fit and sometimes on the flat side that slides in the collar groove. Don't take off a lot you are just taking the burr off. Make sure you have a nice tight fit.

WindGap 07-22-2012 07:19 AM

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser

Am I missing something, cause when I look up #9, it's dimensions are 3/16 x 3/4. That's pretty big. I can't find it anywhere locallly. I bought 3/32 x 1/2 and it was too tall.

BarryReade 07-22-2012 07:28 AM

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser

I looked up your link. The OS part #9 refers to the thrust collar. If it was me I would go down to HD or Lowes and look for a woorduff key that works and be done with it.

How much is in the bottle? There are 128 ozs in a gallon of gas. If you added 1.28 ozs oil it would be 100:1.
2.56 ozs = 50:1, and so forth

Many use this oil and have great success

bells33 07-27-2012 10:04 AM

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser

ahhhh..... see, I did not realize how the ratio thing worked.. but it makes total sense now! (I actually feel kind of stupid..haha)

it is 6.4 oz bottle

airborne2.4 07-27-2012 02:25 PM

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser

Lol I'm still actually pouring 30oz of fuel into an old measuring cup then add 1oz of oil :)

bells33 07-27-2012 02:58 PM

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser

Haha.... Hey, whatever works!

So if my math is right... That 6.4 oz bottle should give me exactly 1.5 gallons of gas to make a 30:1 mix!! Woohoo!!

Thanks for the help sir! Next I'm onto some reading rainbow!! :)<br type="_moz" />

Hi Barry,

Why dont you use the the nut that comes with the spinner as the locking nut ?

I can post a picture if it helps.

No, my problem initially was I didn't know there was one. Then, when I found them, they were out of stock at Tower. Anyway it is all solved and I can't wait to get back to finish building my first Gasser.

That is some twisted logic. :D Your close and my close aren't close.
The $50.00 discount gets the OS 33 within $50.00 the retail price of the DLE30 yes but when you apply the same discount to the DLE 30 they aren't ''close'' anymore.
OS 33 $419.97 - $50.00 = $369.97
DLE30 $319.98 - $50.00 = $269.98
If the replacement parts for the 33 are priced anything like their 55 they will be astronomical.
You can tell your wife you saved $100.00.

What is not discussed is the lack of a useable muffler with the DLE30. Add the cost of a good muffler (many wont use the loud tin foil one included) from Jtec is $79.95 to the DLE and there is almost no difference in price. I hear the included muffler with the OS is a very quiet muffler and useable. Also, you dont have to drill out all your good props so they will only work on a DLE30 and not other similar engines and dont need a drill jig....figure all in the OS is a way better deal in the long run in my opinion for a motor that has 10% more displacement. Not even a decision for me.

How do you get $50 off this engine? I joined the Tower Super Saver club (only $10 right now!), and the biggest coupon I see is for $30...and I think that works for everyone, not just club members.

it's not specific to the club

Deandome, you should be getting a different discount schedule emailed to you soon. They change the discount codes every couple weeks or so...

Or you can call them and discuss it right away if you want to order something right away? The 50.00 discount is real...
