RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine

would the hanger9 twist40 size plane be a good match for the evolution10cc engine??

RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine

Excellent choice..i have a twist..plane is not made for fast flying, floats like a kite..mine has a four-stroke

Thanks i been out of the hobby about 3 years but a lot has changed .. i was flying all gas planes then and really dont want to go back with the big planes but also dont want to go with glow fuel either...

YEA,

I bought my twist 40 used with saito 82,but it didn't have maybe half of dozen flights on it..i don't know how well you can fly,but this definitley a 3d bird, but you can tone it down just for flying..i have been flying couple of years and this plane is really fun to fly

As Josephcraig said, it's a great combo.

We have done a lot of testing with the Twist 40 and the 10cc. It is a blast to fly with this engine. It does float like a kite though as he said...with a little headwind you can fly continuously at idle.

The ignition is a squeeze in the fuselage next to the fuel tank but it's definitely possible.

I think you'll like this combo!

I been flying off ond on for 10years but i'm not a great 3d pilot but i like my planes to be very capable of 3d flying... thanks for the info on the twist 40 you and jimmy have help me decide that the twist40 and evolution10cc is what im looking for.... right now i'm flying a airfoilz edge 540 foamie but i sure miss that gas engine sound:D

i'm not a big 3d flyer either, but if you know your sticks well enough you can get yourself out of trouble, get the plane on up in the air and it will teach you a little.the biggest thing with learning 3d is to make sure you learn how to react when it doesn't go the way you want it to..</p>

do any precautions need to be taken when mounting the ignition? does it get warm? is it ok to mount it in the cowl of a plane? does it need to be dampened for vibration? Didn't see much in the manual on this...

Sorry.. .first gasser.. I realize these are newb questions...

Matt,

There are no heat issues with the ignition. We have successfully mounted it in the cowl and in the fuselage next to the fuel tank with no problems. As with any electronics trying to isolate it a little from the vibrations will most likely increase its useful life although we have not found any issues whether we simply tie-wrap it to a firewall or encase it in foam. It is a pretty robust unit.

Any recommendations on a SMALL kill switch for this engine? I ordered the great planes ignition kill switch for large gassers but its apparent that it doesn't really fit this application. I was thinking of using the standard radio on/off switch but that doesn't give me kill capability from the radio.....

I flew my Evo powered Tiger 2 for the first time yesterday and this engine is very impressive. Runs and idles perfect while jerking this 5 lb. 14 oz. model around like nobodys business. I'm using the Tech-Aero IBEC and an 1100mah A123 battery. Only used 120mah per 10 minute flight. I must say that I'm a little disappointed in the muffler. It leaks like crazy, even though I assembled it with Permatex High temp sealer. I've taken it apart, cleaned it throughly and reassembled it using even more sealer and blue Locktight on all the threads. If this doesn't hold, the muffler will be replaced. The engine is also soft mounted on a Hyde style soft mount which all but eliminates vibration. Happy camper here. RS

Love the color scheme Russmall.

That and the landing gear so change the look of that plane in such a good way!

I am so steeling it for my next project.

Go with a mac muffler and problem solved:)

I used copper RTV from the start and have had no leaks from the muffler and I'm nearing thirty flights and my first gal of fuel.

RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine

Either the Tech Aero IBEC or the RCexl opto isolators will work fine for a kill switch.

Thanks Twin_Flyer, steal away cause I stole it from somebody else, LOL

airborne2.4, I will go with a Macs muffler if I have to replace the stock unit. Are you using the #6720? I found it on Macs website but not at Tower.

AA5BY, That's the same sealer I'm using. Glad it's working for you.

Use a Tech Aero IBEC. Loose the ignition battery. Kill 2 birds with one stone.

There at least 20+ of these amongst the local gasser pilots up here.

was that a kit or arf..i like yellow planes, somehow end up with yellow..

RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine

It's built from plans. My friend bought and built the kit, then made a copy of the plans for me. I used cub yellow because for me, it's easy to see. RS
