Pete,
I just went on Horizon's web site and this engine is on backorder. Any idea when they will be available. Can they still be ordered?

Yes they can still be ordered and placed on backorder. I would suggest that if you want one in the first replacement batch that you do this. Right now it looks like it will be another 60 days before they are back in stock. Sorry about that - the demand far outstripped our forecasts. Thanks for all the support!!

You might try some of the local hobby shops. Most all of our engines went out to them and they should still have some on their shelves.

Hi Rick... I've the Goldberg Anniversary Cub running a Saito .50 and it does very fine with that engine and I'm thinking the Evolution 10GX will be a little stronger. The 10GX should do a great job for you with the Cub.

I'd consider a larger prop with less pitch to provide the low speed torque you'll want to overcome the float drag. It would be another airframe that should do well with an APC 14x4.

Pete,
Hobbyzone have them..are they a branch of horizon..you have to type in evolution 10gx when you go to the sight....</p>

Hobbyzone is an independent dealer of ours. That's was what I was referring too - we might not have the engines in stock here but that doesn't mean that they can't be found locally or at other spots on the web.

Thanks for the tip!

It is actually a 60 in a 46 sized case. The extra weight comes from the ignition system and slightly larger muffler required for the gas use.

Horizon now has in stock the medium Viton tubing that is included with the engine. EVOA102 Med Gas-FPM Tubing (1meter) $7.99, EVOA103 (3meters) $22.99.

Can you handstart this Evolution 10cc gas engine like a DLE or DA engine?

RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine

yes you can after the break-in process has been done. the more it is broken in the easier it is to hand start.

Pete,

Would you compare the evo 10gx power to the evo 52 glow far as power, but being on gas gives it a little more torque in the power range. From the numbers,it likes 10 to 12000,just don't overprop, thats what i like to see evolution make a little more variety of blades..they have good blades...

If any one needS another 10cc evo my hobbie shop has 2  and one is mine for my b-25     After I took apart my cowl to the chapmen eagle I found that the heat had melted the tygony leading to my exhust nipple but with a slight whole in the line there wasn't a lose in power or any showing of a power drop off but wow the black goo was heavy on the side of my eagle  cleaned up with Krud cutter . after seeing how strong and dependable this motor ran with out a dead stick I can't wait to get them on my hanger9 b-25 after breakin

Q.  Is the black fuel line less likely to melt like the yellow tygony did if touching any if the motor or parts ?? I hope so

Yes - The black tubing we provided (viton material) is heat proof on this engine. The problem you encountered was why we included the tubing with the engine.

Joseph,

We are working on more of the EVO prop sizes. Inpout from you guys as to the sizes you want would be appreciated as we consider our next choices.

The 10cc engine vs the 60NX glow engine. At the lower end of the prop scale (10-6, 11-6) the glow engine on 15% noitro would beat the gas engine by about 3-400 rpm. On the upper end of the prop scale (13-6, 13-8) the gas engine would beat the glow engine by 4-500rpm indicating there is an increase in the torque output of the engine simply because of the fuel. An added benefit of running the larger props is the noise is at a lower frequency and at a lower db, making them a better choice for fields that have noise issues.

Thanks Pete,i think the evo 10gx is gonna be a great engine..gas engines i think will be a big changer in rc flying..i may be wrong, but the more tech work on them, the better they will get..i seen a video on a 15cc gas engine that had about the same amount of static pull as this one,so you did really well with it..

I also would REALLLYY like to see this engine come to fruition but I'm not holding my breath. Magnum, a few years back or so, supposedly was going to come out with the Magnum 52g which was their 52 glow engine converted to gasoline and just like this one, they were taking pre-orders. You eventually got on a list to be notified when they were in stock and I have yet to get notified! Every search I could find on the 52g was very positive including one here on good ole' RCU. Sensing a little hostility? :D Actually... I have a 1/10 scale B17 that I started about 4 years ago, was going to put 4 - .46 glow engines on her as per specs, and ran across the Magnum gasser probability. To make a long story a little shorter, I tabled the build at the nacelle construction stage with the promise of not haveing to have so much glow goo to wipe off all my hard work. I'd love to have some little gassers to power her so she will remain on the back burner till there are some that are reliable. Meanwhile I continue to work on and fly other larger scale birds. Still crossing my fingers. Todd
Magnum engines are made by the same company that makes the Evolution engines. The Magnum .52 gas engine development was taken over by Evolution and they finished it up and put it into production.
