I figured someone had to be using that muffler with the telemetry. That's definetly going to be my solution rather than be putting goop on everything. |

Previously I wrote:
"Is 18000 rpm possible with the 10gx using an apc 10-6 prop and the bisson muffler? I ran my new 10 gx a couple of days ago and with my brand new Hangar 9 Micro Digital LCD Tachometer I was getting readings in this rpm range. But this doesn't seem possible from the other rpm reports I have read here, so I believe that the tach may be defective. By the way the engine was in bright afternoon sun here in sunny Dallas Texas." I wrote a message to Pete Bergstrom who gave me his method of checking the tach so I checked it using his light bulb method. I got 3600 rpm on the nose with the tach pointed at the light bulb so it per his method the tach is ok. I have doubts that I want to run this engine much more at this kind of rpm - I have flown it once at low to mid throttle because I was afraid that it would unload to some even more unreal rpm and self destruct. So i am changing to an 11-6 apc for the next couple of runs/flights. It took a lot of runway for my 40 size mustang to get off the ground with the 10-6 but it was FAST when it got up in the sky. :D:D Ed |
RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine
I would ensure that you have the tach in "2" blade vice "3" blade. I pulled out a Super Tigre G51 and replaced it with the 10cc for my old V.K. Cherokee. This weighs around 8 pounds. The 10cc rips it into the air after a 20 foot run and it will maintain a 50 degree climb.

If it was in 3 blade mode it would show 12000 rpm at the same engine rpm that it now shows 18000. (36000/2=18000, and 36000/3=12000) Ed |
RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine
If your afraid your going to hurt the engine at that rpm then put the bigger prop on it and get over it. Seems simple to me to do that. I guess I don't get it.

RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine
ORIGINAL: Russmall I gave up on my muffler, never did get it to stop leaking. And, the back exhaust outlet would turn in flight and blow the black goop all over the airplane and canopy. As someone suggested earlier in this thread, I bought a Macs muffler for mine and that totally ended the problem. The engine is a not as noisy as it was before with the stock muffler and not near the mess on the airplane. Can't tell any difference in performance. I love this engine. RS Hey Russ, I assume you bolted the Macs right up to the head same as the glo? No gasket or gasket maker etc. |
RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine
I ran about 2 tanks (6 ounce each) using the 10 x 6 then went to a Ves 11 x 7.5 prop. This unloads in the air to 12300 rpm in a shallow dive. I usually fly at 3/4 throttle with the prop turning between 8000 and 10,000. It might be possible to tweek for more power, however the performance at the present is mind blowing. Remember, I was flying with a Nitro, that was bigger than .45 but less than the old .56 and that's where my frame of flight reference comes from. Now it is like I have a .60 in the nose, albeit a well run engine, and not a present day ABC screamer.

Just out of curiosity... Could some good soul post a video of the 10GX with the Macs 6720 muffler so I can hear the sound? I suspect that it sounds better.... :D

RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine
RPM chart from Pete says that with a 13x6 they achieve 9800 RPM on the ground. I have 11000~11500 with a Master Airscrew S2 13x6 :D on the ground. I have no measurements flying...
I used to fly like 10 years ago and have no ide about the telemetry systems. I would like to record data, instead of telemetry. Is there any equipment that record RPM/Temp/Etc in a way I can check with my smartphone when back to the ground? (please, if you have a link to a nother forum discussion about the topic like "telemetry for dumies" I would apreciate) edit: the propeller is a Master Airscrew
|

RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine
I'm sold on Vox or Vess wood props. They will give better performance numbers than ThrustMaster and about the same as APC Nylons
but won't slice you finger when manually turning over the engine. I still use an electric starter for safety when the ignition is turned on

RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine
I will add (for those who wonder if my engine is lean) that I set it at the settings that the manual states and for the readings I gave it was almost a full turn richer than the settings the manual gives for breakin (I set it richer because I was concerned that it was lean, but it had very little effect on the peak rpm). My tank is right behind the firewall just like it would be for a standard glow engine. I used the parts that they supply for the tank and fuel lines. Everything is as they recommend/ask for. I set this tank/plane up just like I have set up glow engines for the last 20+ years and they have all run fine, I just adapted it as the manual recommends using their parts.
Tomorrow I plan to check the rpm with an 11-6 APC and fly it. Then go to a 12-7 APC. Ed |
RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine
this katana 50 has been a pain in my behind..seems to give problems every time i fly it..fuel system gave me problems for a bit..got it solved..engine runs like a champ..loosing pressure on the fuel tank come to find out...and also air bubbles from tygon tubing i was using since i ran out the black fuel line..have a new role of the neoprene fuel line now..landed saturday and noticed one of the elevator servos quit..i'm thinking it was my fault from using heat gun to close to it smoothing the monokote...oh well...i put the recommended spectrum servo in it...i'm replacing them with some hitec..dang spectrum servos jittered from the time i put them in...i guess we wouldn't have no fun if everything worked too good all the time.....have yall seen the 15 gx and the 20 gx that you can preorder yet..i couldn't stand it,i ordered the 15 gx ..don't what the heck i'm gonna put it in..

Here it is my new airplane that I just finished with the 10GX in it. It is a Telemaster 40 from a kit I picked up on the bay. I have not flown it or test run it yet. Total weight is about 6lbs 12oz. It should have way more power than it needs but I like the low fuel consumption. It should stay up for quit a while with an 8oz tank and half throttle. Flight battery is a A123 2300mah from Hangtime Hobbies. The battery is also powering the ignition with an IBEC from Tech-Aero. If you have any questions just ask.

RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine
Bruce,
That's a good looking Telemaster and the Evo 10 will fly it nicely. I have an 8 oz. tank in mine and a 10 minute flight, mostly at half to full throttle, only uses half a tank. Speaking of Telemasters, I'm working on a deal for a 12 foot WS kit. Don't know why I want it but I just do. RS |

RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine
Evgeny,
Your carburetor is operating as it should. The problem is that your low speed needle is too rich. Try turning it in a 1/4 of a turn and see if the transition to high throttle is better. The problem you are seeing here is that the engine is running too rich at low throttle and it cannot burn off the extra fuel. 1. Turn in the low speed needle 1/4 turn. 2. Reset the high speed needle back to where it was when the engine was running well. 3. Restart the engine, run it at high rpms until it comes up to temperature as mentioned in previous posts. 4. Bring the engine down to idle and let it sit there 10 seconds. 5. Rapidly move the throttle to wide open (high rpm). a. If the engine does not respond immediately but gradually increases rpm then the low speed is still too rich. Lean the low speed another 1/4 turn and repeat the test. b. If the engine quits (I doubt that it will) then the low speed is too lean. Open the low speed needle 1/8 turn and repeat the test. This is not a bad Chinese design, it is an American design made for us in China to keep the costs lower. Many others are using the same carburetor with great success. Please follow my suggestions above and tell me what happens. Have a great day! Pete |
RE: New Evolution 10cc gas engine
i'm sure they will help you with this problem...everything is on production...its a great engine for a new gasser...ive had other proplems not caused by the engine..fuel tank and servos....its all part of flying...and this is a new plane......

Evgeny,
I never intended to say that you did not understand what you are doing. If you understood my comments this way I apologize. If you will PM me with your address I will make sure we get a new needle valve assmbly out to you. Sorry for your problems. Sincerely, Pete |
