Twin engine ignition module

On a twin engine ignition module is it possible for only 1 plug to go bad and stop working?

Twin ignitions have separate coils for each spark plug but share common electronics to fire those two coils. So yes, one plug could very easily stop working if it's associated coil failed.

Now just have to get a replacement module under warranty as the engine has only had 12 or so runs. :)

Hi Truckracer
I have been told that the supply voltage maybe dropping to the ignition and causing the plug not to fire, does this sound at all possible?
Battery is a 2 cell LiFe 6.6volt 3800mAh running through a tech aero IBEC.
Have not had a chance to test the voltage at the ignition as yet.

The IBEC is the standard type set at 6.6V. The engine is an RCGF 21 twin with the RCGF ignition module as supplied with an operating range of 4.8V - 8.4V.

I would switch plug wires and see if the other side starts to fire.

I have switched plug leads and yes then the opposite cylinder does not fire.
The problem is common to only 1 spark plug lead. I believe as Truckracer said its a faulty coil but RCGF have said to test voltage to the ignition module.
I can not see how low voltage would effect only the 1 pug lead.
I will try and run the motor this weekend with a battery plugged directly into the ignition should prove if there is a voltage problem or not.

If the RCGF branded ignition, they seem to like voltages above 6 volts. If you haven’t all ready, I’d remove all jumpers from the the IBEC. Lots written about these ignitions. Some have been less than reliable.

Do you know if Rexcel make the ignition module or if RCGF make their own modules?
All jumpers are removed from the IBEC.

They come both ways depending on when the engine was sold and who sold it. Most RCGF engines come with their own brand ignitions. When they were having problems, some dealers substituted Rcexl ignitions. If Rcexl it should say so on the ignition box somewhere.

Well tried running engine today with battery plugged directly into the ignition, no change, still 1 cylinder not firing.
So its a faulty ignition module.
