40cc or 50cc?

I'm taking the plunge and trying a gasser. I would like your opinion on the size of motor to buy. The Airplane is the CA 26% 330 (kit) and from what I read, it should end up around 14 to 16 lbs.

I would like an engine that I can try 3D with, but not be so much on power that it is a hand full. What would be your recommendation on engine size? Thanks for the help.

You would be extremely happy with a MVVS 45....I have yet to see a single cylinder as smooth as this one IMO

If you want to try 3D and hover it at 1/2 throttle--then it's GOT to have enough power to be "a handfull"

Hovering at full throttle is dangerous. No room for error. No reserve to get you out of trouble.

I wouldn't put marginal power on it. Nothing worse than an anemic aerobat.

Whats the weight difference between the 40cc and the 50cc? 1/4 pound? 4oz or 5oz of weight on the nose of a 26% plane is nothing.

Get the 50cc motor and use it on the next plane. You can't do much with a 40cc engine after you crash this one.

Both spoken like experts and Rcpilet, you must know me even though I have not met you; it's not IF it's WHEN!

Not to get into brand battles, I have read a lot on engines and I'm looking at MVVS, Taurus, DA and ZDZ. Anything to know or stay away from?

surf--If you have a month before you need this engine look at the BME 55, 2.1lbs less ignition, side or rear carb. It should be a good engine. As for all the above mentioned brands, they are all good.

RTK, thanks just checked the BME web, impressive and not a bad price.

On another note, I went to high school in Porterville not to far from Turlock. Presently reside in Cleveland Ohio.

I have been to Porterville a few times.
I hope your weather has been better than ours, rain the last 5 weekends and more coming this weekend[:'(]

I have my name on the list and I think that will be a great little motor, especially if it is as good as the 110 that I have.

Has anyone heard what the BME 55 will cost and what props it will swing?

i have a MVVS 45 in a QQ YAK at 15 1/4 lbs. it halls it around! hovers at 1/4 throttle, and is very smooth, easy starting, fast! throttle response,a little lighter than a DA 50, and a little more power.

Thanks all. I'm kinda hearing 45 to 50cc. I like the comment that you want power to get out of bad maneuvers. I guess it now just comes down to brand. I will be going to Toledo so maybe I can find more information and possibly a good deal.
