New engine
Here is a new engine to be available soon..This is a prototype..25cc..1.9 lbs..electronic ignition..16-8 prop, 8300 rpm...19-8 prop, 7500 rpm..Price, $179...NOT a misprint, more info to follow after some extensive testing...Looks GREAT so far...:D
Any takers ? |
RE: New engine
Ralph, this is wonderful news. We need a lightweight gasser that is price competitive. I just bought an electronic ignition module and paid more than $179.
|
RE: New engine
This is not someone's fairy tale, the engine looks very good and parts and service WILL be available...
|
RE: New engine
This would be a good match for a lot of 1/4 scale vintage type taildragger airplanes. I have a Nosen Citabria that could have used a gas powerplant to these specs. and $$! [:o] But, I'm still happy with my tried and true Saito 150 even though I have to throttle way back for just about everything.[8D]

RE: New engine
Any takers ? Are the RPMs you posted just data furnished to you? or are they your readings taken in Williams at 7000 ft.? Are the readings without pipe or muffler? Is the exhaust system included in the price? Awaiting more information. |
RE: New engine
Readings were furnished, I have to get an engine and do some serious testing on my Phaeton 90 bipe...I don't have a lot of information, the rpm was most likely checked without a muffler...Prop was a Bolly...For $179 you will have to get your own muffler, there are good ones available for $40 or less...
Just wanted to get an idea of what the demand would be before going overboard with production....:D |
RE: New engine
We are totally lacking in engines that are lightweight AND cheap, there will be a huge demand. How bout a DA50 equivalent for $299, any takers?
|
RE: New engine
If it's $99.00 or less, I'm in.
|
RE: New engine
hi all,
i just started to look for my first gasser and the prices are just ... [:o] well, U know! i need a good poweplant for a 1/4 Wedell-Williams racer. Specs are for 50 cc... can anyone point me in the right direction? thanks, Vasek |
RE: New engine
I'm in. Looks good.
|
RE: New engine
I'll buy one. Where can I get it?
doubledee |
RE: New engine
I wasn't told when, just trying to get a feel for demand.....:D
|
RE: New engine
Hi Ralph. Sounds like there is plenty of interest. I'm going to build (assemble) another "Kangke" Waco biplane. This sounds like a good engine for it. I'll take one if they are up to your standards. Just email me when it's ready or give me a call. Bob
|
RE: New engine
I too am interested! Please keep us updated!
|
RE: New engine
nah, not interested. but i have to admit its a realy good price.
|
RE: New engine
Any name given it yet, or will it be an RS25 (Ralph Special) The specs including price make this engine look real intresting. Will it be fitted with your ignition or some other.
Karol |
RE: New engine
How about a few more pic's Ralph? Looks promising.
|
RE: New engine
Put me in for one.Heck at that price maybe two for a B-25.
|
RE: New engine
Ralph, it appears that a good part of interest rightfully stems from your quality standards for your ignitions and conversion ability.
|
RE: New engine
The main reason I don't have more big gasser planes is the price I have to pay for the engine. I have one gasser, a G-23, great little engine, but would love to have more than one. Currently I have pulled the G-23 from my Super Stearman, and am installing it on my GP Giant Big Stik. I would certainly like to have one or more at that price.
|
RE: New engine
I haven't seen one apart...Yet....
Castle AFB is the West Coast location for the IMAA meet on Memorial Day weekend.....I'm trying to get one in time to make it...We'll see what it looks like and go from there...:D |
RE: New engine
Looks good - what about prop extensions - 4 to 6 inches - available?
|
RE: New engine
It could be done, but would need an extension to the case...I once extended a 3W twin about 10 inches...Threaded the front of the case, made a long aluminum tube to thread onto that..Made a long shaft with a taper on the end, but a bearing at the end of the tube..Worked fine, just a lot of extra work...:D
|
RE: New engine
1.9 pounds? Seems pretty light. Is that number the weight without muffler, standoffs, ignition? I just bought a SPE26cc, which looks very similar to your engine -- and I thought that engine was incredibly light at 2.4 pounds.
|
RE: New engine
The back of the case is flat and square, no standoffs needed.
The 1.9 (30 OZ) is as pictured... Ignition is about 4 oz, muffler 3 or 4 more, depends on the brand... Engine and ignition, 34 oz..Close to a G26, but no contest on the price...I have not tested it myself, we'll see what it does with my 18-6 Mejzlik test prop...9000 rpm is a hard act to follow;) |
RE: New engine
.
|
RE: New engine
I'll take a few Ralph :D. My wife hates it when you do this but said to say hello anyway. ;)
Hope to see you at Castle. Would love to have you join a bunch of us for dinner one of the evenings. |
RE: New engine
You are invited as well RTK :D Are you bringing the WH Sukhoi for show and tell?
Ralph, will you be flying at Castle? |
RE: New engine
Nope, just observing, if at all....
|
RE: New engine
No flying for me either.

RE: New engine
Jim, no broken airplane excuses this time. I want to see that Z fly!
|
RE: New engine
i think i know where this engine came from....:D
|
RE: New engine
ORIGINAL: spacewalkerSG i think i know where this engine came from....:D Don't be a meanie, tell us WHERE ???? Karol |
RE: New engine
Mark me down for one I'm definately in!!!!
|
RE: New engine
Spacewalker..Of course it came from CHINA, like almost everything else these days...
The cylinder appears to be the same as the SPE26, but the case is definitely different... It's supplied with a rotary barrel carb..That will be changed...The hub is made in the USA from 2024 aluminum, and will not strip easily..If the crank bearings are not good enough they will be changed..There will be NO bell cranks to operate the carbs, the throttle will connect directly to the throttle servo..The crankcase is flat across the back, no mounting plate needed,no spindly legs to break...If testing reveals any other flaws they will be corrected or the engines will not be sold....PERIOD...:D They will each be run before shipment, the customer should not be expected to be the tester, there will be no release until everything is RIGHT... There will be a warranty, engines will be repaired in the USA, all parts will be available...... All this will not happen if the engines turn out to be of poor quality after HARD testing...:D |
RE: New engine
See.....Ralph rules.
|
RE: New engine
Yes guys..
What he told you is correct..engine is tested and parts needed to be change will be changed....kudos to you Ralph....i support this... Even if he has tested and proven the engine..i personally will get the engine that have been QC from him....:D ORIGINAL: RCIGN1 Spacewalker..Of course it came from CHINA, like almost everything else these days... RE: New engine
Ralph,
Do you have any guess as to what time frame you are looking at as far as the engines hitting the market is concerned. Understand about the testing and modifying and all the rest, just wondering about when you project it hitting the streets. I definately want one and at the price quoted would be well worth the money untested, "as is". Regards, doubledee |
RE: New engine
I really don't know...I haven't seen one myself yet....
i I just signed up for a vendor space at the Memorial Day IMAA meet at Castle AFB in California, might have at least one there to show.... |
