G38 engine mount

I picked up a used G38 for my DR1 and with the cup mount it's too long. Can I remove this mount or not?

I have the G38 with Bennett cup mount on my Dynaflight Super Decathlon. Yes, you can remove the cup mount. It does not come as part of the engine.

do I put a piece of flat steel on instead then?

Mr Bigg,
Use an aluminum plate style mount. You can make one from good quality aluminum plate or order one from Wackerengines.com. Either way use the cup as a template to locate the mounting hole positions.

Send me your address and about $2 for postage, I have about 10 stock steel mounts taken off conversion G38s...:D

I have a G-38 on a Ziroli Dr-1. I used the stock flat plate that RCING1 is reffering to. I drilled a hole for the rear shaft to pass through the firewall, and it fits perfect.

Thanks guys. I have the BUSA DR1. I'll be in touch Ralph. That sounds about the easiest way to go.

I was just looking at this and if I remove the cup type mount, there is no room for the muffler.[:@]

How about a shortened prophub?

RE: G38 engine mount

The length of the prop hub is determined by the length of the crank..you can't make it too short, the prob bolt will hit the crank before it tightens on the prop.....About 1/2" from the end of the crank is as short as possible..

By looking at the prop hub, I was thinking it was aftermarket. I put it up to the plane to show you my problem. Hard to see, but the cup mount is against the firewall.

Edit: Hey, Ralph look at the last pic. Your conversions go in the cup mount right? That would mean the flywheel and coil would be removed and it might work. As for right now, removing the cup mount alone doesn't do me any good because the muffler is in the rear.[:@] The prop would still be sticking out pretty far also, unless you could do something with it.

Ignitions are in the mount, the magneto coil and flywheel are taken off, the hub can be shortened quite a bit and the carb rotated...$175 :D

Sounds good. Let me save up the cash and we'll get it done. (married with children ya know)
How close can you get the prop with the flywheel and mag removed?

1/2 inch from the end of the crankshaft...
