RE: Brillelli Boyz
lxcoupe - that may look bad to you (and maybe some others), but it ain't NEARLY as bad as mine was.... yes, I was very slow to tweak in the needles...but I did. It gets better.
Gotta say, I wouldn't be too burned about that small amount of goo at this stage of new motor; but that's just my opinion. |
RE: Brillelli Boyz
ORIGINAL: lxcoupe This is what I'm talking about. This is after 4 10-12 minute flights. I leaned the lowend again today till it started to hesitate the richened it back up slightly. The deposits are not as bad as yesterday. So it is getting better but it is still really bad, worse then a glow plane. Al ---------- Having to run a rich mixture on a brand new engine can mean that something hasn't worn in sufficiently - yet. As time goes on, accumulating running time, the "problem" tight spot will either loosen up or will show its head as a defect. Most likely the former will happen and you will finally be able to lean out the mixture normally. New Zenoah and Quadra engines spit black spots all over their models for a gallon or two of fuel. It is normal. These are inexpensive engines, so we shouldn't expect them to be perfectly fitted from the git-go as we would with a 3W or DA. I know that Scott checks for this kind of thing, but anyone can miss a high friction point when they are struggling to keep their noses above water. The good thing about the vendors on this forum is that they are very customer service oriented. We are fortunate to have them here. Ed Cregger |
RE: Brillelli Boyz
Spray a little WD-40 on and wipe it off, no problem.
I never used Lawnboy. I have several gassers and prefer to carry only one gas can. Every one of my engines was broken in on BelRay MC-1 @ 50:1. Maybe I'm just lucky but I've never had a break-in problem and they all run clean now. |
RE: Brillelli Boyz
I've been running ProMix 50:1 on 93 octane gas. This is on my 26cc, and I plan to break the 50 in the same way when I get it. I'm about a gallon in now, and never got that kind of mess. I haven't touched the needles yet either. I see no need to at this point. I get a little bit of black on my landing gear, but that's after about 4 flights.

I've been down the "magic elixir" path many times before. Now I just buy Shell's two-stroke air cooled oil, as recommended by Ralph Cunningham at RC Ignitions and pay a low price for a great product. Yes, there are fancier oils, but I doubt if there are better oils. Ed Cregger |
RE: Brillelli Boyz
I've got a B46 on my Yak and I've ran thru two tanks on it and it is black and oily like lxcoupe's. I'm running 32:1 too. In addition to the soot, I can't get my idle down low enough to have the motor stop pulling the airplane. The idle throw is not hitting the stop yet either.
Is 32:1 too much oil? or should i just wait it out after a couple of gallons go thru? Thanks, Ed |
RE: Brillelli Boyz
I cannot get my gt 40 to suck fuel from the tank, by flicking the prop. If I spray some fuel direct into the carb, and it starts, it manages to get the fuel through, and runs well after that.
Any ideas what may be the problem? I have tried with choke, supply line remains empty. Thanks |

RE: Brillelli Boyz
Clean the little flapper valves in the pump part of carb or if they do not look right...get a new kit for carb. Capt,n

RE: Brillelli Boyz
Thanks, I found the problem,
It was 'n small hole at the rear of the carb I had to close. I did not do it properly the first time, but this time with epoxy it worked. Seemingly a problem on some of the older carbs. |
RE: Brillelli Boyz
mine is a B-46gt and I ran 1/2 of gal @ 32:1 penz 93oct after now I am at 40:1 penz 93oct and the bottom of the plane doesn't get that dirty at all, well any way my Question is,
How does the pressure fitting on the crank works out the smoke system? is this goes press fitting to tank, tank to some sort of servo controled valve, valve to press regulator, reg to check valve, check V to muffler? or washer fluid pump route will be better? Fernando |

Fernando Here is a simple set-up by bennettbuilt. I have 3 of them and they all work flawlessly. Check out his site. Like $53.00 + shipping for the setup. http://www.bennettbuilt.com/smoke.htm By the time you buy the stuff you need using a washer pump and other valuves it's not that much of a savings. Also check out is smoke tanks too. Cheap and easy to use. |
RE: Brillelli Boyz
A good and very cheap way to run a smoke system on our engines is to use a check valve on the crank port we install. Ust it to presurize the smoke tank. It sounds scarey, but I and others have done it for years. Just use some wire to tie the lines to keep them from comming off. There is not that much pressure so it isn't like it will blow the system up. Only a couple PSI. Then buy a flow control valve to control the smoke rate. They can be had for $20 or less. You end up with a $25 smoke system that is lighter than any other setup and less expensive.

Scott:
do you have any pictures of the system itself and operating,a 10 second vid would be much nicer[sm=wink_smile.gif] fernando |
RE: Brillelli Boyz
Yeah, I am very interested as well!
|
RE: Brillelli Boyz
No I sure don't. I will do it in my 88" Yak so I will take pics then. It is pretty simple. Run a short line from the crankcase tap to a check valve. The valve should be situated to allow only pressure out of the crankcase. If backwards the engine will not run well if at all. Then run a line from that to the smoke tank. From the klunk in the smoke tank run a line to a flow control valve like a [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDG64&P=ML]Perry Valve[/link] Then from there to your muffler. Run a third vent line that will be plugged unless filling. T off the crankcase line after the check valve to fill the smoke tank. That is it. Hook a servo to the flow valve and you can do a mix or whatever to run it.

RE: Brillelli Boyz
Guys, has anyone tried an 18X6 on the 26ss with good or bad results? The 16X8 is ok, but makes the model a little fast, and 17X6 props are impossible to find locally - odd size I guess.
Thanks, Rick |
RE: Brillelli Boyz
anyone knows why the 46gt mounted on its side (carburator intake stright up) it takes a lot of flips to start? like 10 flips and then when it sits for 1 minute or more it as to be primed again, is this normal?
Fernando |
RE: Brillelli Boyz
Thats an odd way to mount it... are you fully closing the choke and opening the throttle to prime it?

RE: Brillelli Boyz
Hey guys,
Just wanted to say I got my first Brillelli 26ssr running yesterday. After some issues I emailed Scott and he set me straight.. Also After my friend showed me the trick to get it started,it starts easy all the time now.. Im not sure on the RPMs but with a 18x6 Mejzlik the motor screams.. Havent flown the plane yet, just running a couple tanks through it. Im using lawnboy @ 40:1 and its leaving black residue pretty bad. Ill be changing over to a different kind of oil after I burn the gallon I have mixed with the Lawnboy. Can I switch over to the Amsoil I use in my DA50? The trick I learned on the 26ssr. Flip it with the choke until it pops, shut off the ignition, throttle to full, flip it 3 more times, ignition on,throttle to idle posistion, flip it and within 3 flips its running.. Works everytime.. Now my 46gt for my 74" Yak and dads 26ssr for his 80" World Models Zero should be at my door next week!! Scotts a great guy to deal with and willing to help you out everytime.. Thanks,Scott!! Cya.. RE: Brillelli Boyz
Hey Frank, congrats! Scott doesn't support Amsoil so that would be a no :)

RE: Brillelli Boyz
On my sixty it is turn off Ign rotate prop for about ten rotations with my hand over the exhaust.
Turn on Ign and Choke, flip till pops. Turn off choke and within three flips the engine is running. Friend taught me that priming the engine is the key to getting a gas engine started. As far as oil I run the penzoil that I got from Scott and I asked him about Amsoil and was told "No". So I will stick with the Penzoil two storke oil. RE: Brillelli Boyz
I've been running my 26ssr for about two weeks now (5 12oz tanks). The amount of residue left on the plane is starting to decrease. I will be sticking with penziol for the duration, I will probably go to 50:1 after about 5 gallons.
