Which engine prop combo
I have recently gotten into airplanes after flying helis for 4 years. My "long term" plane that I plan on putting my time into is a 1/4 scale Sig Sukhoi that I recently bought used. I have went all over the plane fixing the small problems in the covering and now it is time for electronics and engine chooses. So far here is my set up as I see it in the near future.
Plane: Sig 1/4 scale Sukhoi Engine: ? (Zenoah prefered) Prop: ? Radio: JR 8103 Reciever: JR 649 PCM Servos: JR 8411 or 8611 Since I am pretty new to the planes like I said this is going to be my long term project. If you have info or a really good set up for me shoot me a line or email and let me know what you would do with this one. ALSO AS OF RIGHT NOW I DO NOT PLAN ON BIG 3D! SMALL STUFF FOR ME, BUT SET UP AND READY FOR IT IF IT COMES DOWN TO IT!!! |

A 2.4 will be about the largest engine you will want to use before you start making the plane too nose heavy. I don't know that Zenoah has anything is the size-weight range that you will need for this plane. Check with RCIGN for a more factual determination about Zenoah engine sizes that may be useful.

I must agree with Silversurfer on the weight issue - a G26 "might" be ok for the Sukoi, but the power will be a little marginal.
You might want to look at the ZDZ40RVL or the Brison 2.4. These are more likely to be a good fit for the Sukoi. Safe Flying! |

Your choices on the electronics I fell are good ones, but I would use a Brillelli 40GT on this plane. It is special made just for aircraft and the cost is only $325.00 plus shipping. It has CH EI and spins a APC 18x10 prop at 7700 RPM brand new. After break-in it should be over 8000 RPM with that same prop. I have a Giles-202 that is very close to the same size as yours Suhkoi and I am putting a Brillelli 40GT on it. It weighed 12lbs with a Brillelli 25GT engine in it. The 40GT weighs only 8 oz more. So with only 8oz of added weight I get another 10lbs of thrust. That will make a big difference.:D You can take a good look at these fine engines at www.brillelli.com Thier customer support is the best you well ever get. You can even talk to them on the weekends for help if you need it. I have talked to Scott at Brillelli while I was at the field having engine trouble. Scott was very helpful and answered my questions. You will not get customer support from other company's like that:D |

You definitely don't want a G62 and the 26 and 38 won't be enough. I had one ( sold it ) witha g62/22X10 and while it was a power monster it was also waaay too heavy.

I would use a Brillelli 40GT on this plane There is actually a photo in their customer photos section of your plane with the 46: http://www.scottellingson.com/brillelli_036.htm You can get the 46 for $20 more than the 40cc, and the 46 generates alot more power. (APC 18x10 @ 7700rpm on the 40cc, or APC 22x8 @7300rpm on the 46). The 46 will be a few more ounzes, but the power will more than make up for that. The 46 will be less than 4 lbs if you put it on EI, and the 40cc is only 3lb 4oz, that includes muffler and everything. Meanwhile Horizon says that the Zenoah G62 is 82oz all up. You get close to the power of the G62 for less than the weight of the G38. |
