RE: Need engine suggestions...

Have you tried it with a Menz S 20x8, or maybe NX 20x8? I have been rather unimpressed with the numbers APC props run when over 18". I wonder if you could swing a 21x8 in a Mejzlick or other lightweight CF prop and get 19lbs-20lbs of thrust...

The 40GT is sounding really tempting... gonna have to see if I can find more numbers after class for a ZDZ40 to compare it to.

RVM,

You were asking for rpm and thrust readings on the Brillelli. I have a brillelli 40GT in a CMP Giles-202 and let me tell you it is a vertical machine. The Giles weigh's 12lbs 10oz with the Brillelli 40GT. I am getting 7100RPM using a APC 20x8 prop. This combination is generating 18lbs of thrust. That is a very good power ot weight ratio. I hope this helps.:D Go with a Brillelli. They are the best people do deal with I have ever found.

I'm running a NX 20 x 8 on my 40GT in my QQ Yak..... fixin' to go flyin', so JUST FOR YOU - I will break my "rule" and take a tach.
Since the number seems important.....

My Yak is dead on 12 lbs exactly, and it hauls ***** with that combo.........

RVM,

I do not have a Menz S or NX 20x8 prop, but I do have a new Xoar 20x8 prop which is very close to a NX prop. I understand they are made at the same plant. I will be putting on the Xoar 20x8 prop as soon as I get a muffler from Brillelli. I lost the muffler the last time I flew the plane. I failed to check it before I took off and it fell off in a 20 area hay field. Scott is getting me a new muffler ASAP so I shold have it soon. I'll let you know how the Xoar prop does compared to the APC.

I feel special, I really, really do!

Quantative analysis > anecdotal findings. :D

Make a video too while you're at it. [sm=thumbs_up.gif][sm=thumbs_up.gif][sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Thank you!

That would be sweet! Thank you!

I think I'm slowly getting closer to an engine choice... if I go with a 40cc it looks like I will need to keep the AUW <12lbs. Hmm, if Hostetler had 4lbs-4.5lbs worth of equipment just to get his Hacker C50 to run for 11 minutes, and his RTF was just short of 13lbs, then if I can get away with 3.25lbs for my powerplant, I can get down near 12lbs. He also uses Sullivan tires, which I can switch out for Kavan. I don't think he's using CF pushrods, which I use, so that might save an ounce or two... it may be very possible to get down to 12lbs. That would put me right about 23.04 oz/sq.ft. (sorry if I've been using oz/sq.in. in other posts - I tend to be rather careless), which would put me in the realm of overgrown foamie. Overgrown foamie = great tumbles, flip-flops, walls and almost anything else I'd care to try. I just want my damned vertical snaps too! :D

I dont think you need < 12 pounds I think you will be fine 12-12.5 pounds and be able to do 2 verticle snaps

90* F, 43% rel hum, dewpoint 63*, elev. 1417, barometer 30.12 "/Hg, air density altitude approx. 3729'....

THIS particular motor turned THIS specific NX 20 x 8 propeller at 6520 rpm, fully-warmed up.

Change ANY single parameter of these factors and the "rpm" will change, so the meaningless-ness of the tach reading should be evident.

There are variations among all of these parameters. There is no "mean" and no "average".

The only MEANINGFUL comparison is the SAME prop, on the SAME day, with the same gas across the motors being tested.

But, I could do consecutive upline snaps. Accelerate out of a hover vertically. Tail slide, then throttle up and climb out, THEN do a snap or two. And keep going.

What does all this mean?

Absolutely NOTHING. My setup works for me, on this airplane, and it's pretty cool, and I like it.

Good luck with your decision.

The numbers can be indicative of a general trend, and enough numbers can be statistically significant. :D

Thanks for taking the time to record this information!
